![]() The New History of the World $45.00 ...with all of J. M. Roberts' books is that they focus heavily on the development of modern western societies. Just looking at the table of contents reveals this. Entire books are given to the development of European political thought, however, India, China, and Japan are relegated to individual chapters. If it is so hard to encapsulate European history in several books, what makes one think that all the richness of the eastern cultures can be summarized in one chapter? Alas, I think this is the main problem with how history is taught, its too ego-centric, always focusing on YOUR own history. Modern world affairs have shown that this leads to global misunderstandings with the most dire of consequences... Congratulations Mr. Roberts. ![]() The Complete Book of World History (Complete Books) $14.95 This book was exactly what I was looking for. I gave it as a gift to my nephew who is in elementary school and just loves history. He found it to be very interesting and loves the illustrations. His parents think it is great that kids could be so enthusiatic in reading a book of this kind. ![]() World History: Human Experience $98.64 We received the book in great condition -even better than described. And we received it very quickly. Thank you! ![]() A Little History of the World $14.95 This is world history as "concept." It attacks the subject in chunks of the "once upon a time" variety, just big enough to stick to the brain and such that even a young kid can understand and enjoy it. Yet, it is not for kids only, for it covers all of the major events, personalities, dynasties and wars of civilization -- as well as the prehistory of man. In an unbelievably thorough way. Hard to believe but true! Although it cannot serve as the "last word" on world history. As the "first word" it is an exclamation point: virtually unsurpassed in its liveliness and ability to hold the reader's attention. Thus it is a fun read that spins myths and legends that just happen to be true history. It is an intoxicating experience that makes the reader want to know more, which is about as much as one can ask for from one book. The sheer fun of this book makes one wonder why there are not more summary history books like this one, both for children and for adults. It may be little in size but not in its impact on the reader, a virtual index to the beauty and magic of history. Ten stars |
