I've heard about a hundred arguments for why this album shouldn't be good, including attacks on the dated 80's production style and cheesy song selection. All I have to say is WHATEVER! I LOVE this album! I've had it in my collection since it first came out and I think this one gets better over time. Sure, I hit a period of self-importance when I looked at this album with disdain and said, "Geez, I can't believe I used to listen to that!" But that was my fault, not the album's fault. To be fair , "Love Is A Contact Sport" is pretty damn corny. But in context of the album as a whole I think it works. And a lot of these songs just blow me away... "Just The Lonely Talking Again", "Where You Are", "You're Still My Man", "Where Do Broken Hearts Go" are all beautiful, classic tracks. And Whitney's version of the Isley Brothers "For The Love Of You" is tantalizing, beckoningly gorgeous. Her backing vocals on that track are sublime, and I love the arrangement. The closing track with Mom is very touching too. The hits are great but I'm sure we've all heard them a million times. For me it's all about the album tracks, and these are fantastic. The original lp vinyl sounds great and I would recommend hearing it that way.

When it has came down to Whitney houston, the past few years haven't been such joy ride, with all the heartbreak she had went through from the end of her marriage to Bobby Brown in ruins, to beating the odds from abuse and departure from the world into possible retirement. Well, her retiring into the sunset thankfully didn't happen, and she came back with a very strong soul. With her comeback album, I Look To You debuting at #1 on Billboard, she definitely has shown a reintroduced defiance of heart, soul, and the voice within. That proved very intimately with the title track when it was released back in August, and here with the second single from I Look To You, Million Dollar Bill. The song brings in a deep and driven dance vibe that matches the feel-good rhythms of 70's Soul. That matches better for Whitney than what a lot of other acts like The Pussycat Dolls (Hush Hush) and Ciara (Never Ever)tried to do with garnering that vibe into their songs earlier this year, but theirs sounded terrible. Alicia Keys really put a great spin on the melody, writing this one for Whitney so well from the soul, and it really is a great dance anthem, especially with all the tough times we see the world right now. If you haven't yet heard Whitney Houston sing, than this would be a great addition to your MP3 library.

i am very familiar with most of the songs on this album. some of them were hugely popular back then. this was the album that made people fall in love with whitney and her voice. it's all filled with great memories and classics. for people who are beginning to like whitney and her music, you should start right here.

1. "You Give Good Love"-awww...i love this song. her vocals are so amazing. i could just feel it. it takes me back to those good ole times when i was little. 5/5

2. "Thinking About You"-"that's what i wanna do". i miss this kind of whitney. she sounded so youthful and vibrant. unfortunately, good things don't last long. 5/5

3. "Someone for Me"-a nice, 80s pop tune....that's all i could say. 4/5

4. "Saving All My Love for You"-this song was HUGE back then. everyone tuned into this song and tried to sing like her. they even got steve urkel singing this song, lol. it's very seductive at best. 5/5

5. "Nobody Loves Me Like You Do"- i don't care too much about this song. it sounds country-like and it's kinda boring. 1/5

6. "How Will I Know"-the only dance song on this album that moves you to your feet. 5/5

7. "All at Once"-i'm not sure if i heard this song before...i probably have but it's a really nice, decent song. they need to have more songs like these. 5/5

8."Take Good Care of My Heart"-whitney and jermaine sound great together just as they did on "if you say my eyes are beautiful". it reminds me how music used to sound so great back then. 5/5

9. "Greatest Love of All"- another HUGE, memorable song. it was an 80s equivalent to Mariah Carey's "Hero". i remember the kids at my school sang this song one time. it may sound cheesy, but it is really inspirational. it's about believing in yourself. too bad they don't have these kind of songs anymore. 5/5

10. "Hold Me"-i grew up hearing this song but i never realized that this was whitney singing this. i love this duet with her and teddy pendergrass. it's very romantic as roberta flack and peabo bryson's "tonight i celebrate my love". 5/5
