Williams and The Plasmatics: The DVD - Ten Years of Revolutionary Rock and Roll $19.95 I am into music from Ramones to Beethoven. There are rare times when punk can be a high art, seriously stop laughing! The Plasmatics were one of those bands. Both visually and musically one of a kind. Not to mention she only wore 2 pieces electrical tape as a top and those things were AMAZING. Get past the harsh vocals in some songs and there were some songs to heavy metal, but all in all this was the best punk band I have ever seen. Also all the stunts are real! If you remember Tom Snyder and his late night show in 70's to 80's. His top two rated shows features the Plasmatics. There are many great stories to go with that. In short buy the damn thing!! Sad post script. Wendy committed suicide in NJ while running a wild animal shelter. ![]() W.o.w. $15.98 The first Wendy O. Williams solo album coming after the first three incredible Plasmatics albums; I guess it would be unfair to compare it to the Plasmatics (and I am glad they didn't use the band's name, since Ritchie Stotts was kicked out, and Rod Swenson didn't write as many lyrics for the album) but since Wendy's name is inextricably linked with the Plasmatics it's unavoidable. If you have never heared any of Wendy's work before and are curious, I would recommend anyone of the first three Plasmatics albums first (though all three are different in sound: if you want true 70's punk get New Hope for the Wretched, if you want something that has more balls than 80's hardcore, lyrics as poignant, but less specific, than Rage Against the Machine, with some of the most powerful vocals on a Punk/Hardcore recording I suggest Coup D'etat), but if you heard "It's my life" and liked it (because it is a great "pump you up" anthem" I would recommend just downloading the song; the rest of the album is OK for a listen or two, but doesn't have the staying power of the Plasmatics, it doesn't have the dedication to art, music, and the desire to express the human soul. The WOW album, is cool because of the cover displaying the power of Wendy, but that doesn't necessarily translate to the music and lyrics, which are watered down due to the fact that a good portion of the songs were composed by two guys who think money is more important then music, and assume the masses don't enjoy good music; Chaim Witz and Stanley Eisen, better known as Gene and Paul from Kiss. But if your craving anything Wendy, and can afford it, get it all she was great, but I still think the original Plasmatics were phenomenal as a unit with Wendy leading the way. |
