Philosophy can be exhausting when reading essay after essay and proof after proof, but this book relates the main ideas (which are what make philosophy interesting to most people anyways)with funny anecdotes so that while contemplating life and death, this book will remind you the most important thing is to have sense of humor about all of it. This book is much like its predecessor, though I feel the first book was marginally better, in that, in any given chapter, it has philosophical debates and points strung together with jokes and funny editorial pictures. The jokes are funny and you will laugh out loud many times--I promise--though the jokes are somewhat shadowed over by the editorial pictures which are extremely funny. I will say too that the editorials go along perfectly with the point being addressed in each chapter. This book is not meant to teach an advanced student of philosophy anything new, rather it summarizes concepts so that what you will have in this book are the major questions, which you will find yourself answering, or trying to, throughout your reading. Philosophy, when breaking it down into its real form, is a very tedious area and at times very boring. However, philosophy is one of the most interesting and intellectually stimulating fields there is because it deals with the questions we find ourselves asking since we first spoke our first word. This book gets to the point and gives you the basic questions that will have you tossing and turning throughout the night trying to fathom and answer. This book poses the tough questions about death, life, religion but keeps its sense of humor and asks that you do to. It is a fun read, an intelligent read, and a book from which many discussions will arise from. Thanks for reading the review and hope you enjoy it as much as I did! |
