If I could give this zero stars I would. This OS has given me countless hours of mental pain and suffering not to mention physical pain at the fruitless hours sitting at the computer with hurting neck and wrists trying to get different things to work - ipods, webcams, camcorders, digital cameras. What a piece of crap, I wish I'd returned it, but it came preinstalled on the Costco computer I bought. After reading reviews of Windows 7, I'm going to live with the fragile but working Vista system I currently have that allows me to webcam with family one out of every two times (the other time, it usually doesn't work for whatever reason I have no idea) and allows me to upload my pics and video safely so far. But doesn't allow me to burn them to dvd. You know that computer bashing scene in office space, well that is what Microsoft is driving me to. MY NEXT COMPUTER WILL BE A MAC.

I am a computer professional and assumed I would understand Vista based on my experience with Win XP and experience with many Microsoft products. I was wrong. Simple things no longer seemed simple, and intuitive was not the word that came to mind when using it.

However, there is a method to Vista's madness -- you just need someone to explain it. For example, to search for a file in Win XP you can right-click on a folder and select Search. In Vista, there are many ways to search, most of them are not as self-defined as in XP. Vista Help, as with many Microsoft products, is not sufficient, at least for me.

You will use this as a reference -- no one would actually want to read through the book chapter by chapter. The writing is clear and diagrams helpful. All in all, another good book in the Inside Out series.
