Folks loving the past projects of this outfit may not like the vocalists added here, but that's ok. Let the artists decide what directions they wish to take--heck, they didn't slag the Beatles for changing their sound on virtually every album after Rubber Soul. I bought this for the Jayhawks on board and was delighted to discover what else these folks have done, so even the "bad" reviews are descriptive in their own way, and thus, constructive.
This set emphasizes singer-songwriter type music, and is enhanced by the spoken word pieces and the excellent instrumental backing given to these songs. Very smooth, yet very dense like the ocean: calm, yet full of mystery and intrigue.
These songs really hold up with repeated listenings.
For those wishing for an instrumental-dominated record, this one gives particular challenge. It's worth the extra listens some folks may need to get on the same page as the artists here.

Very highly recommended to reptile collectors and nature/reptile enthusiasts with a scientific orientation, Tuatara, A Living Fossil by Dick Lutz is an informed and informative history of the Komodo Dragon enhanced with complete reference to being the only reptile with its own reptilian order strictly defining itself. As there are four reptile orders/classifications (turtles/tortoises; lizards and snakes; alligators and crocodiles -- the fourth category belongs solely to the tuatara, an interesting organism that has existed since the age of the dinosaur. Tuatara, A Living Fossil makes for an engaging an information-filled read for students of zoology.

Perhaps, for the most part, there are two types of people who are unable to appreciate tuatara's musical prose: 1) those are are intrumentally inept; and 2) those far too musically adept. But, of course, there really are only two types of people in the world: 1) those who think they can classify other's into two categories; and 2) those who know better. Regardless, tuatara spawns passionate dances one minute only to be followed by intuitive reflections and meditations the next. A must have for the majority of us affectionate with the'fun is just beginning' non-classifiable jazz/world beat fusion bands.
