Star Ocean Till the End of Time $19.99 This game is fun. The story is pretty original, but the plot is multi-layered. You begin as Fayt Leingod who basically lives in a space-age world with other humans and species. Fayt's world is attacked by unknown beings, and eventually, Fayt crash-lands on a world whose development level is that of approximately Medieval times. From there, an entire subplot begins and unlike most subplots of most RPGs I've played, this subplot will keep you busy for a LONG, LONG time--and that's WITHOUT sidequests! Don't get me wrong--the game is a lot of fun. Your characters learn a lot of powerful and fun techniques as they level up, and in my opinion the things some of the monsters say are funny. As the game proceeded though, I found myself forgetting what the original plot was all about because the subplot on the Medieval-type world took such a long time to develop, until the unknown beings that first attacked Fayt's world suddenly attacked the new world. Then Fayt and his friends, some old, some new, go to investigate why they're being attacked. I won't give these details away too much, but the game for me took a tiny bit of a downturn at this point. The bosses suddenly seem to get a lot harder, more annoying, and more plentiful. There is a fun place to level up at this point though (in the form of an arena), and if you fail it's not an automatic game over, which is nice. One last thing: the final boss is PHENOMENALLY HARD!!! He has like 3 forms and all told, over a million hp with an attack or two that hits almost the whole screen. I've beaten it, and the ending is fun to watch; but it was all luck--my other characters were all dead except Fayt and I had no healing items or magic left. But--this game is fun. And so I do recommend it.  Thomas Stevens, Trumpet $16.99 Comtemporary music for trumpet, alone and accompanied, is not always the most accessible idiom for listeners. However, this recording contains works that are exciting, dramatic, and poetic at times. Tom Stevens, the great Principal Trumpet of the Los Angeles Philhamonic for many years, performs with amazing facility and imagination. A portion of the works on the disc are Stevens' commissions and are standard reference recordings for the works. Well worth a listen. |
