![]() Thriller $9.99 I'm truly pleased with this product. It arrived in good condition and the CD plays beautifully. It's always a tremendous honor and blessing to hear Michael's voice. I love him, very deeply and miss him endlessly. ![]() Michael Jackson 25th Anniversary of Thriller (CD+DVD) $15.93 What more can be said about "Thriller"? It's a known fact that it is the best selling album of all time(it is hard to give an exact number as of yet but it's pretty high, some sources state up to 110 millions) and it's safe to say that with downloading now and the decrease of record sales in past years that it will never be equaled. By 1982 Michael Jackson was already an established artist by that point having released the successful "Off The Wall" in 1979, his first "real" solo album without his brothers and having performed for many years with his brothers as the Jackson 5 and later simply the Jacksons. Nothing could prepare him for the super stardom that would hit him with "Thriller". With this album Michael wanted to an album with no fillers and whether or not he planned it he accomplished much more than that. There are plenty of great songs to be found here just take a look at the track listing; all great songs and nearly all of the album's songs were singles, 7 out of 9 not bad eh? "Wanna Be Startin' Sometin'" is a great opener, the title of this song says it all Michael wanted to start something big and with Thriller he did just that. "Baby be Mine" is a groovy kind of song, very good. "The Girl Is Mine" duet with Paul McCartney is a great collaboration between the two artists. The title track was a monster hit and it seems every Halloween it's all you hear, great song. "Beat It" is one of my personal favorites, a rocking track that features an Eddie Van Halen guitar solo. Then there is of course the unforgettable "Billie Jean", it's hard to believe that producer Quincy Jones initially wanted the long introduction removed. "Human Nature" is another song I really like showcasing a softer side of Michael. "P.Y.T (Pretty Young thing)" and "The Lady In My Life" are not to be forgotten, they're also great songs. With "Thriller" Michael would not only change the music itself as he pretty much turned by himself the music video from a promotional tool to an art form as has been said. The videos for Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean are still remembered today and had a tremendous impact. The contribution this album made to music are certainly important, many artists of today have been influenced by him for this album especially. He would never release an album quite like Thriller again, don't get me wrong I love all his albums but this is the kind of a album can usually only happen once in a career. This album is essential, there is no other way of putting its a must have. 5 stars and I would give it much higher if I could. The 25th Anniversary edition is the collector or fan's way to go. It has an unreleased track "For All Time", some remixes by today's artists and a DVD with the videos for Thriller, Beat It and Billie Jean and his legendary Motown 25th anniversary performance. ![]() Michael Jackson 25th Anniversary of Thriller $19.98 I bought this product for a friend in Pakistan. I was appalled at how long the shipping was projected to take (more than a month) but my friend reports that he never recieved the cd. If shipping to Pakistan is such a risky propostion I think customers might be told that Amazon cannot assure us that a prodect will arrive. ![]() Thriller $355.00 [From Thriller Picture Disc Review] I remember this was the greatest thing ever when it came out. It still might be. Michael's passing, may he R.I.P., (& quick side bar, whatever you think of the man, the music is some of the best of its kinds ever, not negotiable) brought this imagery and passion within this particular album and video right back into the forefront of American musical culture. Another quick sidebar, recently along comes a friend of mine, into DJing who excites me into joining him in the world of spinning, of vinyl. So now that I have plunked down a few hundred on equipment and a few hundred on vinyl from local record stores (please continue to support local vinyl as well as Amazon "big box" efforts), what is an aspiring DJ to do? Listen to music. I tracked down every CD, every MP3 I could find and combined this with vinyl. Listening to music was literally like homework and I would race home after work and listen to at least a few hours of music a day. After a music marathon (and operation credit card reduction) month, it was time to select various classics that basically every music owner should own (and especially own on vinyl for any DJ work). First two things that popped in my head, were Purple Rain by Prince and Thriller by Michael Jackson. Both albums influenced me earlier in life, were pivotal in my musical (and therefore perhaps life) decisions and have influenced even who I am today. Thriller is literally an opus, a magnum, an epic, the Iliad and the Odysey of musical craftsmanship. The usage of Vincent Price, equal parts genius and creepy, the costuming, makeup, the entire production show on this was top of the line, completely began a new field (music videos) and set the bar so high, that few have even come close sense. This album has everything, Billy Jean, PYT, I could literally name every track and likely you know many of the words to most of these songs. This is truly the epitomy of what music can be, and should aspire to be. A great album, not a patchwork of songs, but a story, something that will draw any listener to the same place. Be thrilled/awed/inspired/frightened again and get this album. Last note on this, I own this on mp3 (to listen to), on vinyl (I have a copy to spin/play) and I bought the picture disc to display on my wall. It is literally art. Thanks |
