In THE GENERAL, Buster Keaton portrays a loyal Southerner during the Civil War who is also engineer of the entitled steam locomotive. When Union soldiers make off with his beloved engine, Keaton pursues them in a second and eventually manages to steal the General back.

The plot is a set-up for two superb train chase sequences that climax with one's plunge into a river after a wooden bridge the train is crossing collapses. Re-creation of Civil War uniforms and equipage is remarkably accurate, the Tennessee and Georgia scenery (which is really rural Oregon) looks perfect. Keaton's effortless and amazing stunt abilities make this a most unforgettable film-- a classic in every sense of the word and a must-see for all!

After recently viewing this movie all I can say is we LOVED it! Buster Keaton was brilliant, and now we want to see all of his movies. KINO did such a terrific job - the film looks new & the music is perfect. What a wonderful discovery!

My son, age 12, had to read 12 books this summer to earn a monetary incentive...and he bought a few of the Cherub series to get started, eventually getting all of them. Some nights he would skip TV so he could be reading one of this series instead...that's how engrossing he found these books. If it gets him to read more- I'm all for it. By the way, now he's reading more for fun- not just because we incentivized him.

i boult this dvd on behalf of my mum she had hear of her friend that it was a good movie. i knew it was coming from a different contry but did not relise it would not work on my dvd player
