I don't know guys- I feel Roxy Music's songwriting isn't that great this time around. You have "Psalm" which musically doesn't offer a whole lot to me. Just a slow build up and nice lyrics that repeat more or less the same vocal melody for eight minutes. Occasionally some instrumental chops are thrown in the background, but they aren't enough to interest me, I'm afraid. I guess the lead singer wanted to showcase his skills on this track. THAT he did, but not to my liking personally.

In fact the entire album sounds like a passable warm up until Country Life is made. That's a better album as far as songwriting and experimental ideas working correctly goes. Still, Stranded has a few nice moments, mostly from the shorter songs. I DO love "Mother of Pearl". You simply cannot forget a chorus like that! In fact one time I was humming the chorus while vacuuming my entire downstairs (living room, kitchen and den- the three most important rooms in my house). Also "Amazona" rules a LOT.

Just know the first two Roxy Music albums, along with Country Life, are a LOT better than Stranded.

I can't understand the horrible reveiws this movie is getting. I guess if you were born in 1990 and used to seeing explosions every 2 seconds, I guess you would hate this movie. However, if you were born anytime before that like I was where movies had character development and a story that sucks you into it and puts you in their place, then this is a great movie! Now, don't get me wrong, some of the acting is hokey, but the movie takes it's time like it should and the soundtrack helps you feel the lonlieness of space. To prove I'm not the only one that enjoyed this movie, I showed it to 2 other people at 2 separate times and they both enjoyed it as I did.
All I can say is, try it. Hey, we all get duped into seeing dumb movies that are pushed as blockbusters in the mainstream, so why not give this a shot. You may be surprised. TC

Look, either you love Roxy Music or you don't. I've been trying for years to come up with a term for the kind of music they offer and, well, Roxy Music, fits as well as anything because it is unique. I'm always tempted to label them punk (even though I know this is a gross misnomer) because they are so original and musically brash and because I hate the term "Art Rock" that is usually applied to them.
As far as this album is concerned, it is a great one with lots of standards and stand outs. Avalon is usually considered their most romantic album, but I'd recommend playing this one even more so if you're looking to get lucky.
The Japanese pressing is quite nice, but I haven't sat down and compared it side by side to a standard American CD release. The cover on the miniLP is, however, gorgeous and worth some extra cash.
