I'm not much of a fan of hard rock. I often tend to think of much of it as being loud, grating noise. I rarely listen to albums of this nature, and as it is, I only heard this recently because it was an old cassette somebody gave me that I was test-playing before attempting to sell. That being said, I actually enjoyed this album quite a bit. While it does have a lot of that noise that I'm not a big fan of, it also seems to have a certain focus that's not present in a lot of music of this sort, and one thing that seems to stand out is that, as loud and hard-driving it may be, it's not just a bunch of meaningless noise. This band, like the legendary Nirvana that came before it, actually knows how to create hummable, melodic guitar riffs that actually keep this album, which is certainly meant to be dark and moody, from sounding like a complete exercise in depression and self-destruction.
