![]() The Cradle: A Novel $21.99 My wife and I read The Cradle which was chosen by our book club as the December book to read. Mary and I felt the same ... the book was O.K. ... not really great and not really terrible ... until the last 15 pages. Then, WOW! The events of the previous pages were tied together beautifully, and we were glad we had read this book. I know for some it is not worth the trouble to read an entire book and not be drawn in until the end. That's why I rated the book four stars rather than five stars. ![]() Brooklyn Heist $27.98 Three teams of small-time criminals decide to rip off an irascible pawnshop owner¡Çs legendary riches. Hilariously, each group¡Çs plan is more ridiculous than the next, and everybody is planning the Big Job for the same night! A stellar cast including Danny Masterson (That ¡Ç70s Show), Leon (Get Rich or Die Tryin¡Ç) and Dominique Swain (Lolita) brings to life this stylish spoof of the beloved heist comedy genre. Strolling from neighborhood to neighborhood, this brief history knocks on the doors of everyone from the father of Fenway Park to Missy LeHand, Franklin D. Roosevelt s private secretary and steadfast companion. Even the notoriously elusive Captain Kidd is caught for inspection as he tries to slip through a trapdoor in a bedroom closet. ![]() Somerville (Images of America: Massachusetts) $22.99 I was born in Somerville Ma and lived there for the first 12 years of my life and have been back to visit countless times. I love Somervile and the state of Massachusetts. I really like this book. It is an easy reader with lots of pictures and short captions about each picture. I really would have liked more modern pictures. Maybe pictures from the 1960's thru 2000. The book really only shows wicked old pictures and not to much of anything else. Was there not any Somerville history in the second half of the 20'th century? What about Assembly Square and the Edsel or the T and how Somerville became the "suburubs" of Boston. I dont wnat to come off as disappointed but this book could have been a whole lot better if it covered the history of Somerville to the present. |
