 This American Life - Season One $19.99 Quality of the transfer to the DVD is subpar, they decided to cram everything (if you can call a little over 2 hours everything). Not really a lot of extras if thats your thing. The stroies were great though - I watched all 1 disk of this in a single sitting and I laughed and cried, sometimes at the same time. Its shows like this that make paying for cable worthwhile.  Mary-Louise Parker Weeds Series Showtime Ephemera $24.95 This is a promotional item, which is a gift bag. It features Mary-Louise Parker on one side, see photo, and an actor for Californication on the other side. It measures 5 X 12.5".  Family Business -The Complete First Season $33.33 I bought this set really looking forward to it and ended up severely disappointed. More attention goes into the screenplay of a porno than into the scripted antics of this show. It would be great to see an actual porn-related reality show. But this was just a bunch of one-dimensional scripted nonsense. Hey- the director! And his cousin! His mom too, what??? These people on the show probably lead interesting and sometimes dramatic lives. But every little staged event and posturing was just annoying. They should have just turned on the cameras and let these people be themselves. When a porn-related reality show sucks, well that's pretty bad. They didn't even throw in enough gratuitous nudity or sex to keep the show watchable. But, garsh! It's cousin Stevie running around being a moron! Again!  Brotherhood - The Complete First Season $29.98 I would rate this at 4 1/2 stars if that were available. I liked this better than the Sopranos in some ways, less slick but far less cliched. The writing is very good for a TV series as is the directiing. Most of the acting is very good; though I felt that Jason Clarke (Tommy Caffee) performed at least a level below Jason Issacs (Michael Caffee) and looked pretty weak by comparison. I was really looking forward to season 2 and hoped that the series would get better with maturity. I'm sad to say that did not happen. |
