![]() Adventures of Sherlock Holmes (Wordsworth Classics) (Wordsworth Collection) $4.99 Sherlock Holmes has long been a favorite of mine. Nothing's changed. He still is. Excellent book, both in contents and appearance. ![]() The Complete Sherlock Holmes: All 4 Novels and 56 Short Stories $13.90 When I was 10 years old, my Aunt Shirley gave me a copy of "The Complete Sherlock Holmes".....yes, at 10 years of age...I was enthralled with every single page. Some of the words I didn't know very well, and I sure didn't understand about drug addiction...heck, that was in the 1960's - but I became such a fan of the great Holmes as a result of this book. Lengthy? You betcha! Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's depiction of the life & times, and obsessions of Holmes, still captivates me today, and yes, I still have the same book, much-loved and with a well-worn spine. ![]() The Complete Sherlock Holmes Collection $129.98 14 films. Black and White. Fully-Restored. Detective, Sherlock Holmes, never ceases to amaze his partner, Dr. Watson in solving mysterious crimes that have perplexed the police. A new, villain-adversary in every story. Sherlock Holmes travels to various places, homes, castles, trains, businesses to solve the mystery. So far I have seen: "Dressed to Kill": Excellent. A prisoner convicted of counterfeiting makes three music-boxes as part of prison work program. The music-boxes are sold at an auction-house. Someone wants all three, music-boxes very badly, and is willing to kill for them. "Secret Weapon": Excellent. In the midst of World War 2, someone is after the just invented, top-secret, Norden-Bombsight and its inventor. The inventor knows this and has taken the precaution of using three, coded-messages. Who will figure out the clues first? "Terror by Night": Excellent. A wealthy woman is traveling by train with a very expensive jewel. A notorious, but yet unmasked, jewel-thief has made an unsuccessful, attempt to steal the jewel. The woman hires Holmes & Watson to travel with her. The jewel-thief is on the train, but which of the passengers is he or her? "The Woman In Green": I saw a different version of this same story; so I did not watch this all the way through. I did not like this story, because it is not believable like the other stories. The story is a bit gruesome of a murderer who cuts off one of the fingers of his victims. "Hound of the Baskervilles": Good. The setting for this story is the moors of England, a countryside of low-lying, land, covered in fog. The soil is too poor for farming, rocky, patches of low-thicket-heather, grass, patches of peat-bogs, and marshes; marshes of deep-mud, deep-water, with a debris-layer on top that looks like solid-ground, but can give way and trap a man if you do not watch where you step. A man who owns an expensive home there dies under suspicious circumstances. His son comes to take possession of the home. Holmes believes someone will try to murder the son next. The first half of the film carries out seemingly insignificant events that become significant, that are clues, and are explained in the second half of the film. Thus, the first half seems a bit slow, but is necessary as things happen in the second half. ![]() The New Annotated Sherlock Holmes: The Complete Short Stories (2 Vol. Set) $95.00 Just great! The pleasure is the same than for The Annotated Sherlock Holmes Four novels.
