 The Blob $9.95 This is the kind of horror movie I love. You like the characters, the monster is super cool, and you even get a happy ending!. I saw this in High school back when it hit theaters, and it has been one of my favorites ever sense. I showed it to my my wife, who hates scary movies,and it scared her to death. Any horror fan probably won't be very scared, but this is really a fun popcorn,good time. I would have loved a sequel to this, because every crappy horror seemed to get a sequel, but no. This one will stand alone,and I can't recommend this enough. Great, great movie!  The Grudge 3 $14.94 Usually Japanese sequels tend to move into really bizarre directions that take a little too much puzzle work to make any sense of. Given that this was the first Grudge movie to not have Takashi Shimizu in the director's chair, we get a fresh approach while still staying faithful to the series. The second movie had the curse spread to Chicago by a girl who went into the original house in Japan, surviving long enough to bring it home with her. Eventually the apartment complex she lives in becomes cursed itself and anyone who enters falls victim. So in this third chapter the victims are plenty. This movie was more of a straight forward horror flick than the previous chapters and gives us a little resolution by the end. At least now we know that there's a way to stop the curse- although most likely only for the time being.  Flower Drum Song (1958 Original Broadway Cast) $11.98 I must say I have enjoyed this score over the years, however, the play does drag and presents itself much better in a concert version, which we are seeing alot of these days of older musicals...Must add that there is a 20 minute clip of original Broadway Cast performing music from the show in full costume with sets on the Ed Sullivan Show from December, 1958, shortly after the show opened on the Internet...it is quite fun to see all of the major stars of the original show performing their numbers, while show is fresh on Broadway...we see Miyoshi Umeki (I am going to like it here), Pat Sazuki (I Enjoy being a girl) Larry Blyden (Sunday), Love Look Away, etc.. also great to see Juantia Hall perform her numbers....many of these stars are now gone (Hall, Umeki, and Larry Blyden, who was killed in a vehicular accident in Morroco at the age of 49...enjoy a great recording!! |
