Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (with CD) (Prima Official Game Guide)
Mortal Kombat: Shaolin Monks (with CD) (Prima Official Game Guide)

I don't know if it's Prima or what but this book is good to a certain extent. I say that because it has your basic stragties and tips but for some of the more valuable areas or secerts you'll get frustrated. Like the tomb before you fight Baraka, you do everything the book says then something is suppose to happen in order for you to continue to that area but nothing happens. Whats that all about!?!?! Anyway you could go all the way back you came, but that gets annoying because you have to find you way back. I think Prima needs to be more in-depth with their material.

Choy Li Fut Kung Fu: The Dynamic Fighting Art Descended From the Monks of the Shaolin Temple

This book gives a great overview of Choy Li Fut Kung Fu! It talks about the lineage and history which I find fascinating. The book also covers ALL the basics which is the true art of Choy Li Fut. As a practitioner I use this as a reference guide on a frequent basis. The book is very elusive and I find a little bit more hidden in these pages each time I pick it up. Laid out before you are the true secrets of the art. To most they don't know what they are reading so they simply glaze over the words. Those are the ones who truly miss out.

If alarm bells ring at a book title beginning `American' rest assured, this is an unexpected gem. Matthew Polly writes with wonderfully self-depreciating humour that makes for a very enjoyable read. Better still, he delivers real insight into modern training at the Shaolin temple.

There is a sense of genuine warmth for the people he meets and every word rings true. Polly is not afraid to expose the less spiritual side of Shaolin, with its tourist traps, political intrigues and the unhappy relationship between business, politics and religion.

He describes his training in both traditional kungfu and modern kickboxing at Shaolin, together with the monks he befriends, the challenge matches, the girls (or lack of them) and the other strange `foreigners' who turned up at Shaolin during his 2 year stay. If you liked Iron and Silk and Angry White Pyjamas, American Shaolin is, in some ways, better than either. Highly recommended.

This is a pretty poorly produced little documentary. - I mean the quality of the film. It's subtitled in English, and they speak Chinese (which is fine for me). The information is pretty cool, and seeing how difficult it is & what all the little fellows in the dvd have to endure is just amazing. These kids are absolutely amazing. I don't know what else to say besides that. I learned a lot from the documentary, about the shaolin lifestyle, what they have to go through on a daily basis, their training regiments, i learned a bit about Buddhism & etc. It's worth the money. :)
