![]() The Mind and the Brain: Neuroplasticity and the Power of Mental Force $16.99 In my opinion, the greatest contribution of The Mind and the Brain lies in it's discussion of the potential of brain cells to change and adapt to new functions and even to reproduce. Brain plasticity is a new, revolutionary concept in neuroscience. It is revolutionary concept in psychotherapy as well. Dr. Schwartz's particular interest seems to lie in the area of OCD (Obsessive Compulsive Disorder). Using the concept of brain plasticity he presents a four step plan in the treatment of OCD. He offers evidence of the effectiveness of this approach as opposed to more traditional methods. Dr. Schwartz offers some proof that this treatment based on the plasticity of the brain can be effective with or without medication. This book is one of the most worthwhile books I have ever read. Elizabeth Skoglund, Author of Divine Recycling: Living Above Your Circumstances ![]() Schwartz' Principles of Surgery: Self-Assessment and Board Review, Eighth Edition (PRETEST PRINCIPLES OF SURGERY) $57.95 This self assessment edition is a much more improved version over the previous one. The solutions/answers are given next to the quiz page and that saves a lot of time while one is going through a list of questions and wants to know the answer after each ( no need to turn all the pages and go to the end of the book to find the relevant answers). Overall the presentation is good and handy. The contents are as good as ever. ![]() Internal Family Systems Therapy $28.00 I had been hesitant in buying this book, because I didn't like the title. It sounded too much like 'family therapy' to me, and had nothing to do with dissociation, parts, alters, or anything; but eventually after multiple recommendations I purchased the book. It was fantastic. It still is, I re-read it a lot. It helps to really de-pathologise dissociative disorders where parts or voices or alters or personalities (insert your terminology of choice here) are involved, and as a person with a dissociative disorder made me feel more empowered, gave me ideas to help myself further heal, and gave me a normalised structure in which to view my own parts. It is a validating and refreshing look at the concept now common with dissociative disorders, that suggests that integration of parts shouldn't be the goal; but concepts of co-operation, co-consciousness and compassion should be. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants practical case studies and advice as to how to address internal dissociative systems; and provides a successful model to look towards a healthier future. ![]() ABC News presents Morrie Schwartz - Lessons on Living $14.98 This is a great dvd to use as a companion with the book. I taught it in 11th grade and showed part of each interview with the corresponding chapter from the book. I recommend this dvd. |
