Schindler's List
Schindler's List

$26.00
This is the most important book I've read so far this decade. The author Thomas Keneally writes extremely well and even if you know quite a bit about the Holocaust, you will learn more as a result of reading this book. Characters of all varieties are brought to life here and force you to consider ethical principles and the nature of human behavior.

I watched only part of the movie of this book as it made me nauseous. For those who may have avoided the movie for similar reasons, I can highly recommend the book. You can read it slowly, taking in all the historical facts, and though the brutality is described, you do not have to witness it with your eyes. It is still difficult but leads you more to an interior exploration of your own ethics and opinions about society.

One of the important aspects of the book is that Schindler was no angel. He had many character flaws. But he attempted to save as many victims of the Nazis as he could despite the danger. Therefore, the book though depicting the worst kind of brutality can give us hope. I urge you to read this book.

This is a decently illustrated book about the work of Schindler, with approximately 33 color photographs and 39 black & white, omitting the color drawings and floorplans included. The black and white photos are very good, as well as the color ones, but a small problem here is that some interesting buildings only have a very small picture to illustrate them them, and that plainly just doesn't work, given that the reader wants to learn about the architecture of his. The worst part is that the writing is targeted at people that are more familiarized with Schindler. The text in some ways tends to contradict itself. But then, this is supposed to be an introduction to the architect. So why? Why only giving the Lovell house a restrained textual overview with no more than two photos and a floor plan? Why not continue with the integrity of the Kahn book from the same series, which, on the contrary, as a summarized intro, gives plenty of information about the buildings? This book is good, decent, very affordable, but too superficial. The descriptions lack information.

I was looking for a book with plenty of pictorial representation of Schindler's work, in addition to written material. This is a gorgeous book, well researched and presented. A necessity for architecture buffs.

Enjoyable book about the meeting between the author and the former Jewish
prisoner who settled in the US and was determined to have his experiences
about being saved by Schlinder published.
