 Occult Crimes Taskforce (Oct) (vol. 1) $14.99 I was really disappointed. The artwork was fantastic. I love that the main character was based upon one of my favorite actresses, Rosario Dawson, but that was about the only thing I liked about it. Overall the story was rushed. It would have been better if it the story had not been jammed into four issues. With such a limited run, there is not time to have the story flow the way it needed to. I can't imagine a cop would so readily accept the existence of an undercover police squad that deals with the supernatural. Yet within about eight panels that is just what happens. I would be hard pressed to recommend this to anyone. With the exception of the artwork, there's not much else I can say good about it.  Chelsea Walls $14.98 This is an awesome movie!! It offers a poignant look at life among some outcast and odd characters who have taken up residence at New York City's Chelsea Hotel. (Yes, this is the same hotel where Sid Vicious killed Nancy Spungeon, full of romance and hauntings, which add to the pain and atmosphere of this movie.) Ethan Hawke did an exceptional job of directing. Cast includes Rosario Dawson, Uma Thurman, Natasha Richardson, Tuesday Weld, and Kris Kristofferson in some really interesting roles. It is NOT a "feel good" movie, but portrays a realistic look at NYC's disenfranchised. A lot of the story is conveyed through the random recitation of poetry. Kerouac and Ginsberg fans will love it! Be warned - this movie is not for everyone - it is depressing and slow moving at times. BUT - if you can appreciate things like beat poetry, street life, hippie thought, punk culture, and a unique NYC perspective, I VERY highly recommend this dvd!  Descent (Rated R) $2.99 A gritty story of male and female rape and revenge. It is a dark story and can leave the viewer with questions was it worth the revenge. This film is handle quite well considering the subject matter and can be a bit daugnting but i think it was acted and directed well. There are two versions this NC17 is the uncut , uncompromising version with explicit language and nudity plus the female and male rape are directed very well without being too shocking. Get this for your collection. |
