![]() Or is That Just Me? $31.80 More of the wry, honest and often hilarious chronicles of Richard Hammond - TV presenter, adventurer and general drawer of the Short Straw. Continuing where AS YOU DO left off, OR IS THAT JUST ME? focuses on just a few of the many hair-raising stunts, expeditions and encounters experienced by Richard Hammond over the last eventful year. ![]() A Short History of Caravans in the UK $24.95 Richard Hammond has had a longstanding love affair, bordering on the obsessive some might say, with caravans. He has researched their origins and history, celebrity owners, the uses to which they have been put, their place in history, names, jargon, games with, things to do in, recipes to cook in, and future of. He also gives sound practical advice on how to use them to best advantage, race them (ensuring first they are of the nonstatic variety), and how to destroy them in interesting ways (of which he has much experience?80 or so at the last count). An essential guide for any owner or prospective owner or indeed anyone with even a passing interest in caravans, of whatever sex or age, or race, or inclination. Or even perhaps someone with apparently no interest in caravans who might have a previously latent interest aroused. Some even talk in hushed tones of a parallel universe, though he has no personal experience of this, yet. Anything is possible. ![]() On the Edge: My Story $17.95 This is an interesting book. It's not a funny book, though it has light moments. It's definitely a serious book and it gets you thinking. Richard briefly talks about his childhood and how he became a daredevil. He briefly talks about growing up and becoming an adult, starting off at a radio station and eventually working up to his job as presenter on Top Gear. Most of the book centers on his jet car accident. Richard describes everything up to the point of the crash, then his wife Mindy takes over the writing as Richard's mind is shattered. She poignantly writes about the pain it caused and his arduous recovery, littered with doubt. As Richard recovers and his mind becomes whole again, he becomes more of a presence in the book, gradually taking over more of the account from Mindy. It's meant for those who are interested in what happened to Richard after his jet car crash, and those who are looking for an autobiography will not find that here. Though it lived up to my expectations and wound up being a surprisingly quick read. ![]() As You Do . . .: Adventures with Evel, Oliver, and the Vice-President of Botswana $19.95 The book was funny at times and still managed to be very informative a good read for someone who follows Top Gear and can fit on screen personalities with the people in the book. |
