I have tried many times to use this gadget. Sometimes it works. Sometimes I can NOT get it to work properly. I have tested the vacuum unit out thoroughly and it seals and works fine by itself on any smooth flat surface. The problem appears to be a manufacturing defect in the bags which won't let the valve open correctly. Some of them just refuse to work and you can not draw a vacuum. I found myself spending a ridiculous amount of time just sealing a single bag - like ten minutes! That is, when they will seal at all, which they usually won't. The little one way valve is the key to the entire vacuum sealing operation. If it's defective you may as well throw the bag out and try another one. I wrote to customer service and they refused to believe there was a defect and claimed I wasn't using it properly. Hey it's just a vacuum! Just place it on the bag and it sucks. Not rocket science. I finally threw the whole kit in the garbage and bought a Ziploc vacuum kit with a hand operated pump instead. It actually WORKS.

Is there any reliable, testable, empirical evidence that the cocktail of chemicals used to manufacture these liners (they consist of "heat resistant nylon," according to the manufacturer's website) is not released into the food that is slow cooking in them for eight hours? Thanks for any advice!
