Custer's Last Stand (feature version)
Custer's Last Stand (feature version)

$9.95
A mystical medicine arrow, the key to a lost gold treasure, is lost in one of many Indian attacks. It is recovered by the only two survivors, a Major and his daughter, who become the targets of those who wish to possess it. General George Armstrong Custer and army scout Kid Cardigan attempt to stop the ensuing war over the arrow, but fail in their efforts, which becomes the historic Custer's Last Stand. Many historical figures and western stars of the time appeared in cameos in the feature, including Calamity Jane (Helen Gibson), Elizabeth Custer (Ruth Mix), Buffalo Bill Cody (Ted Adams), Sitting Bull (Howling Wolf), Wild Bill Hickock (Allen Greer), Chief Crazy Horse (High Eagle). A fun, if not historically accurate, wild western tale.

In old San Francisco a fire company passes by and two rescue a drowning man (he has lost the love of Rosette). Their comic skits go on with variations on arithmetic. They all get a laugh from the newspaper story. Next they land at Skagway. Nugget Joe finally meets Rosette the singer. Stillman explains his plans: Rosette marries Joe, then inherits as his widow. Gold can change people. George has beginner's luck at roulette, then loses it all. Next they will travel to an Eskimo village (to continue comic skits). An accident releases their dogs, they are lost in Alaska.

George and Tom don't have luck fishing. They are rescued. George tries whale meat. There is a dance and singing. Tom and George fight so Joe and Rosette can escape. The search among the igloos recalls the game of cups and a hidden ball.
This must be the least funny of their movies. The comic skits are good, but the story is poor.
Heroes of the Alamo
Heroes of the Alamo

$9.99
Very enjoyable little films about the Alamo if you can survive the horrible large bright logo "the Alamo" in the corner of both films. This greatly ruins the viewing experience and is a despicable practice. That is why this only gets 3 stars. The Heroes of the Alamo print is a bit dark but is otherwise fine with no splices and is a Columbia Pictures print. The 36 surviving minutes of Davy Crockett At the Fall of the Alamo is a tinted print which looks pretty decent. If not for the logo issue, this would have been a very good release. What's the point of releasing films like this(especially the surviving footage), if it is going to be multilated like this.
