Resurrection: The Power of God for Christians and Jews
Resurrection: The Power of God for Christians and Jews

$20.00
This book is a scholarly analysis of the development of the doctrine of the resurrection of the body for Christianity and Judaism. It analyzes the Old and New Testament, the Talmud, the writings of Gnostics, and the Christian Fathers about the resurrection. Though it is written for believers and non-believers, the authors believe God's justice requires the resurrection of the body and the book is a strong apology for faith. For example:

"Tertullian and Irenaeus firmly believed that if the Gnostic notions of the body and resurrection were true, this meant that Christians had not really been saved. The stakes were that high. To suggest that such men were really more interested in securing thier own comfortable existence or power is to misrepresent or misunderstand them woefully, to present them falsely, and to obscure how seriously and conscientiously such thinkers wrestled with the truth of the claim that Christ had been raised and that all of his followers would be raised on the last day."(page 234)

Ok, to start off with, I am a huge fan of the supernatural genre. To be honest, I didn't particularly like the last 2 books of this series. For some reason, I couldn't put them down, it was more like I wanted to find out what happened but I didn't like what happened once I read it. I hated how the authors left the other books so open-ended. At first I liked how they pretty much said that every religion has something to it but everything else was all over the place (viewpoints etc,)Too much far-fetched stuff happened throughout both books. Most books you read, there's something happening that would never happen but you can follow along with it, you "pretend" like it could happen, I suppose you could say. So much happened throughout this entire series that I was left saying "WHAT??? no way." By the third book, I just borrowed it from the library, I couldn't waste my money on it so I guess you can say I was biased from the beginning of it. I started reading this book for the same reason as the other 2, I just wanted to find out what happened and see if Holly ever got with Jer. I got about 1/5 of the way through and I just closed it up and returned it. I couldn't force myself to read it. I even made it the only book in the bathroom so I'd just read it out of desperation but not even that could force me to read it so I finally just gave up on it. Don't waste your money on this book or the other 2. I noticed that my library doesn't have the first 2 books (they don't carry whole series, they just have the odd book in a series here and there) so I'm going to donate the first 2 cause it's either that or I burn them (and I have never burned a book in my life, they were just that awful)

A very good video featuring N.T. Wright discussing what he has come to understand about the resurrection after many years of scholarly study. Wright has written an excellent 700 page volume on the resurrection, and this video hits the high points of his learning at the same time it takes the viewer on a tour of the sites in the holy land where the events occurred. The video is very beautifully done.

Wright is no backwoods self-proclaimed voice of God. He is a scholar who has done plenty of study and research, and he has written many acclaimed books on Christianity. He is also a life-long clergyman who has studied and taught in many universities in the Western world.

Wright believes in the literal, actual bodily resurrection of Jesus. He explains why in this video.

My only regret is that the video is only one hour or so. I felt that much that Wright had talked about in his 700 page book on the resurrection was cut short or left out of the video....the film would have been much better at twice its current length.

RESURRECTION takes the standard "Alien Invasion" story we're all so familiar with, and turns it on it's head: What happens AFTER the Invasion? When the Invaders mysteriously disappear, and Humanity can safely emerge from it's hiding places, how will we exist without laws and civilization and leadership?

The series seems to take it's cues from Robert Kirkman's THE WALKING DEAD series, right down to the look of the artwork. We follow a few different groups of survivors, whose paths eventually cross, learn a few bits and pieces of information about the Aliens ("Bugs") and the Invasion, and get a few tantalizing glimpses of the post-Invasion world, but ultimately the books crawls along at a glacial pace....Some of the characters are connected in ways that are never made clear, we leave the book knowing far too little about the Bugs, and are left with more questions then there were when we started.....Granted, these questions will all be addressed within the pages of the upcoming RESURRECTION series, but Author Marc Guggenheim really didn't make me care enough about any of the questions to want to come back to this world again. The art is decent enough, but there's a kind of sameness to the faces that often makes it hard to tell who is who.

184 pages for six dollars is a steal, and I applaud Oni Press for making this book so accessible and wallet-friendly. RESURRECTION: THE INSURGENT EDITION has some great moments, and at this price, it's not going to require you to break the bank, so pick up a copy and decide for yourself.
