![]() The Final Theory: Rethinking Our Scientific Legacy $29.95 According to the "About the Author" section at the end of the book, Mark McCutcheon is an electrical engineer, so of course many people will dismiss his theory outright because he is not a physicist. However, I believe that it is possible for an individual to develop a great understanding of a topic without having a specialized degree in a field of interest, and I consequently was willing to give the book a chance. The author presents a theory that he thinks explains a number of physical observations and also supersedes previous theories that attempted to describe and/or explain those observations. He does a good job of addressing several areas of physics which he believes are in error or in need of revision. The main problem from my perspective is that I am not well-versed enough in physics to evaluate the theory and conclusions found in the book. Therefore, I think the theory and conclusions presented in the book need to be evaluated by a renowned physicist or group of physicists. Ironically, however, if a physicist or group of physicists were to shoot the book down, then this would still play quite nicely into the author's implication that physics is in the midst of a paradigm in need of shifting (a la Thomas Kuhn's The Structure of Scientific Revolutions), although one should consider that perhaps a different paradigm shift may be in order. |
