![]() Snowfall on Judgment Day $15.98 A couple years back; while looking for some news on Fates Warning, I stumbled upon Redemption. Having never listened to any of their songs, I kind of thought; since it had Ray Alder on vocals, that it must have been quite the thing. I'm glad I wasn't wrong! Mr. Alder has never, ever disappointed me. His voice and his phrasing is uniquely amazing. I can't think of some other singer, (other than maybe pop rock legend Sting), who has gone through the transformation of his voice with quite the success that Mr. Alder has. I've been a fan of Fates Warning since 1987's No Exit album, and throughout his career I have witnessed his development and transformation into; in my humble opinion, the best prog rock singer, bar none. As for the rest of the band's lineup; Nick Van Dyk is just an incredible songwriter and composer; his lyricism is just great as is his interplay with the brilliant Bernie Versailles. Greg Hosharian is just an outstanding keyboard player; he has it all, the ambience and atmosphere creating, the soloing; very much like the great Derek Sherinian. As for the rhythm section, both Sean Andrews and Chris Quirarte are amazing talents; they just blend in perfectly well. This album in particular, picks things up where The Fullness of Time and The Origins of Ruin left it. It's just a continuation of their greatness, having stayed true to the winning formula they have previously displayed on said albums. If there was any possibility of a let down after their two earlier masterpieces, the first song "Peel" erased any chance of it happening at all. The second track "Walls" by the time it hits the chorus part, I mean, can it really get any better, I'm lost for words! As for the duet performed by James Labrie and Ray Alder "Another Day Dies": SONG OF THE YEAR!!! It's been done before if y'all remember, by way of Fates Warning's Parallels landmark album; the song: "Life in Still Water", but this time ever so much better. And if this wasn't enough for an astounding performance, right after this instant classic, follows the great rock ballad "What Will You Say?", with Alder showing his emotion in a rather unfamiliar setting; since even though he's done a lot of slow tempo, pensive and meditative singing before; I'm positive, he's never done anything like this. 11 out of 10 stars in my book. Just buy the album already!!! ![]() Redemption $12.99 Redemption, by Karen Kingsbury with Gary Smalley, is as it's name suggests, a story of Redemption. Kari Baxter Jacobs is hurt and angry after one fateful phone call exposes her husband's affair. Her husband, Tim Jacobs, is anything but remorseful and when Kari's old love moves back to town, Kari is faced with choices that will determine her future and the futures of those around her. I've never been a humongous fan of Karen Kingsbury, but I did find this book to be exceptionally well-written. It is the first book in the Redemption series which features five books based on the Baxter family. The characters were so real and the situations were so authentic that I felt as if I was really right there in their minds and circumstances. To be honest, I wasn't expecting this book to be such heavy reading. It isn't the kind of book that you read when you want a happy bit of fluff. No, this book is so real. The situations are exactly the type of situations that people face in real life. I especially liked how all the characters were personally addressed even though the book centered mainly on Kari. ![]() 24: Redemption $19.98 If you are a JACK fan - this movie is GREAT! I had started Season 7 not realizing that this was a prequel of sorts and then went back to watch this movie. It added SO MUCH to Season 7 and tied in lots of background. Worth every penny. We - two couples that watch 24 faithfully - agree that there should be a movie like this for every Season! We only hope that once 24 ends, there will be more movies....what will we do without JACK to save the world? ![]() The Fullness of Time $16.98 This is Redemption's second album, and the first with Ray Alder(Fates Warning)on the vocals, an amazing improvement on their debut album. Is one of the best metal album I have ever listen to. An absolute solid sound and performance, is truly beyond words, buy it right now, you will not be dissapointed one bit. |
