I absolutely loved this book! Even just flipping through the pages and reading the hilarious and entertaining things Mr. Nardone has written to accompany the fantastic photos was fun. Getting to the actual carving is easy and creative, and the detail in the photos included make it easy to grasp what you're aiming for and how to get there, even for the novice carver. This year the travesty of using the cheap 'pumpkin carving kit' blades is finally over since one of those blades broke leaving me unable to finish one of our two pumpkins. Due to an incident many years ago involving a filet knife, carving a pumpkin and nearly removing their thumb in the process, I'm looking for less-dangerous ways to carve our pumpkins. These cheap kit blades are OK but break, bend and need to replaced yearly. It made it frustrating and more often than not my design didn't turn out the way I wanted thanks to how hard it is to maneuver them.

Until now, it's been a pain, but thanks to purchasing this carving knife it is so easy. It is sturdy, has a great grip and maneuvers with a slight twist. Just pull out the blade to the skinnier tip and turn the amount you need to turn then continue carving from there. It's a lot easier and doesn't require you to have the blade to the hilt constantly to get the job done. Carving big or small designs is a breeze. Need to trim up the pumpkin where the eyes are more open? No problem, stick the blade into the socket and shave off a little of the inside rind to the size you need. Last year I ended up removing a part I didn't want removed from my pumpkin because the carving kit blade wouldn't do what I needed it. This blade lets you go in at any angle and make a clecan cut on the FIRST cut, not several.

This knife isn't very sharp but it gets th ejob done. It may not seem enough but it cuts better than a normal knife due to the saw-like appearance without the worry about cutting your finger in the process.

I'm going to get another pumpkin this evening just to carve it up with this new blade I like it so much. This is going to be one to last for years. Spend the 15 dollars to get this one rather than spending that on those cheap carving kits. It will save you time, money and frustration. I plan on putting a video review/demo up soon as well.
