![]() Surviving Prostate Cancer Without Surgery $19.95 If you are a man...Read this book. As a prostrate cancer patient, I found this book a very complete and informative overview of all the treatments and conditions men face with this disease. I learned things that neither of my two doctors (a radiation oncologist and a urologist)told me. This is the best overview of prostate cancer conditions to date. The information can guide you to a better life. ![]() How We Survived Prostate Cancer: What We Did and What We Should Have Done $16.95 This book was written and released three years after I was diagnosed with advanced prostate cancer. As I read it I found myself wishing over and over that it had been in print when I first was diagnosed, and that my wife and I had read it together. It isn't a happy book; their struggle was very difficult. But the book raises all the right issues for a couple to be aware of and talking about in order to get through this ordeal stronger as a couple, instead of being shattered by it. ![]() You Can Beat Prostate Cancer $20.00 Most men will at some point in their lives be concerned about prostate problems. Most urologists are quick to recommend surgery if prostate cancer is detected from a biopsy. It is well worth being educated and informed before making a decision that would likely reduce quality of life, and perhaps not be any more effective in treatment than what is discussed in this book. Mr. Marckini discusses his search for an effective treatment for his particular stage of prostate cancer, with minimal side effects. He discusses the pros and cons of all the conventional treatments and his reasons for deciding on proton treatment. He also goes into great detail on his experience at Loma Linda University Medical Center, as well as general information on the prostate, PSA readings, and getting a biopsy. This book is well written and extremely informative. It is essential to get all available information on treatment options before submitting to the knife, seeds, regular radiation, or drugs. There are only a few facilities in the country so far that offer this treatment, so most doctors in locations that don't offer this treatment are not willing to mention it. Do your own research and be armed with as much information as you can get. This book will go a long way to educate men as they enter middle age with rising PSA levels. ![]() Surviving Prostate Cancer: What You Need to Know to Make Informed Decisions (Yale University Press Health & Wellness) $17.00 This is a very informative book, written by a Doctor who admits even he, as an MD, didn't understand everything that was happening when he was diagnosed with prostate cancer. In addition to being a frank discussion of the author's concerns, questions and how he went about finding answers, this books helps to put the man diagnosed with such a cancer-and his spouse as well-at ease with a better understanding of what this cancer is and how to begin to understand the choices available in seeking a treatment suited to the patients own condition. Included also are many clever cartoons which help to ease the stress of the recently diagnosed patient. After all, even though prostate cancer is one of the slowest growing cancers, and has a good survival rate, it is still CANCER and tends to frighten the patient. I encourage the prospective buyer to add this to his bookshelf but strongly urge that he also check out additional books, such as "Dr. Peter Scardino's Prostate Book," to gain a thorough understanding of what Prostate Cancer is and how to arrive at an educated choice of the right treatment for you. |
