![]() Pete Doherty: My Prodigal Son - A Child in Trouble, a Family Ripped Apart, the Extraordinary Story of a Mother's Love $11.70 For over three years Jacqueline Doherty has been watching her rock star son's messy descent into drug addiction. Every step of the way has been charted by a hungry media. And every step of the way has been agony for a loving mum. Pete Doherty's celebrity means that his addiction has become public property. But Jacqueline is a private person and her painful account is that of any mum - or any parent - trying to help a child in trouble. This is the compelling story of Pete's childhood, his burgeoning talent, his success as a musician and his drug addiction, set against the backdrop of his loving relationship with his mother and his family. It is a moving memoir of how a happy, middle-class family is coping with a family member opting to love drugs more than he loves them, or himself. It is a memoir that will offer hope to other mothers and families in a similar situation. ![]() Pete Doherty: On the Edge: The True Story of a Troubled Genius $13.95 Pete Doherty is the man who put the sex and drugs back into rock and roll. Bursting onto the scene in an era of manufactured bands and squeaky-clean stars, his lust for life, decadence, and wildness has endeared him to music lovers, appalled the establishment, and earned him legions of female admirers. First with The Libertines, and more recently with Babyshambles, Pete has expressed an uncompromising commitment to living life his way, becoming the most talked about singer-songwriter of his generation. Drawing on the memories of the man himself, those of his girlfriends, managers, and drug-taking companions, On the Edge dispels any myths and tells the true story of Pete's extraordinary life, from the depths of his heroin and crack addictions to the heights of his musical successes and his turbulent relationship with Kate Moss. ![]() Grace/Wastelands-Super Deluxe Edition $31.99 Super Deluxe limited version includes a CD, DVD and a bonus T-Shirt. EMI. 2009. ![]() Grace/Wastelands $14.98 This is a rich, beautiful, muted, heartbreaking and occasionally exhilarating CD. All the media crap aside, Doherty is the real thing, an artist who can put deepest and sometimes his darkest impulses into memorable, if often heartbreaking songs. His singing is perfect: he never gets in the lyrics' way and his phrasing is totally his own. And there's not enough to be said for the production. It's immaculate. What's worrisome is that most of these are old songs. I'd be terrifically happy to hear a dozen new songs, if only to demonstrate that Pete's still turning them out. But this is a collection that just gets richer with repeated listening. |
