The first time I saw this knife I fell in love. It is simple and functional. This is not a hunting knife or a camping knife. It was designed as a back up weapon for military or law enforcement personnel. It is what it is. The blade is good quality and extremely sharp. The tip is very thin, so you need to be careful what you use it on, i.e. don't pry open any paint cans with it. I've heard that SOG stopped production of this knife, so if you can pick one up for less than $80, it's a good find. I paid $85 for mine. They're pretty hard to come by and most of the time go for $100-$125, so if you want one, you had better grab it quick. The older model came with a leather sheath. The newer one has a kydex sheath. I prefer the kydex one. I gave it five stars because there isn't anything higher on the scale.

I don't know what the hell was troubling Washington Post reporter James Mann when he was writing his review (perhaps he was just too jealous of Vogel?) but his comments on this book are 180 degrees wrong.

Yes, the book is long, yes, the main character is a life-long military/Washington bureaucrat -- so what?! Vogel takes the construction of a building and turns the story into literature. There is intrigue, double-dealing, vendetta, and genius in this story. At its center is Gen. Somervell is man for the ages; history plucked him from obscurity at the right time in the right place and he made the most of it. Our government, our economy, could do with a shot of Somervell genius and determination. And yet Mann calls him "boring" and of little interest. Whoever paid Mann for his work should have been fired.

Buy the book, you'll read it and shake your head in amazement every other page.
