I purchased Officepolitics after reading Don's other books HOW TO DATE YOUNG WOMEN version one and two(advanced skills).
I originally purchased HTDYW v1 after working in an office with 95% young women and it blew me away about their thinking, attitude etc so I researched some online bookstores and purchased a number of books mainly on understanding young chicks and HTDYW v1 was one of them after reading all these books I realised how brutally true HTDYW was, and how much rubbish the other three books were. OFFICEPOLITICS was written for women but both sexes can benefit from reading about life in the corporation and how to deal with bosses, co-workers, personnel staff for both new entrants into the work force and those considering changing jobs or career paths. The book is brutally honest as were Don's other books, for those that have exerienced some of the circumstances that is covered you will relate and find very amusing.
The book was written in 1994 so it needs updating but overall it is still relevent to todays workforce.

There are not enough words to describe how useful and educational I think this book is. After having been backstabbed on my last project I have recognized how damaging it is to not want to or be able to succeed in the craft of office politics. I have read and absorbed every page twice on my first read which will not be my last. I was deeply impressed and inspired by the information and samples presented on every single page. My goal is not to become a selfish office politician but to be able to further my career (not only) by fending off my adversaries with ethical politics and defense mechanisms. For the longest time, office politics for me was like an incomprehensible and invisible current running throughout the company. Something slippery that I couldn't grasp--even though it permeated and affected everything. The result was many politically boneheaded moves on my part. Some people seem to have an innate understanding of office politics. I didn't. Many don't. Those of us that don't have that understanding will find ourselves at the mercy of those that do. This book can put us on the right track to achieving the same level of political savvy.

Page 73 to 106 provide guidance on how to view politics in the positive light, and the signs to watch out for in your environment.

Page 107 to 167 provide information on how to manage your image in the company and how to verbalise your thoughts to your overly political colleagues.
