For example the author states that the upper arm and forearm should form a 90 degree (or so) angle; this is often repeated in pool instruction books but is not necessarily a good guide - the real requirement is to have the pool cue and your forearm form a 90 degree angle at the point when the cue tip is at the ball. Upper arm position is based on body position or how close your getting your head to the cue. For examples of top professionals who aren't even close to 90 degrees between upper and forearms check out Mike Schimdt, Efren Reyes, Jennette Lee, Gabe Owens, Jose Parica, Nick Varner (the list goes on). Using a "punch" for draw is another amusing concept. For those looking for instruction check out the BCA's list of billiard instructors - there's probably one near you. An good instructor can, in a short period, help more then any book will ever. A BCA Master Instructor or Billiard Academy (such as the Pool School in Texas) will definitely improve your game. |
