Nouvelle Star (the australian concept Pop Idol/American Idol/Canadian Idol...) was not as successful as Star Academy (the dutch concept Star Academie/Operacion Triunfo/Fame Academy) but still revealed two singers (NB: you have to know that ST airs on French biggest private channel - TF1 - while NS airs on a smaller private channel - M6).Young Belgian Jonatan Cerrada, the winner, represented France in Eurovision Song Contest 2004. His album "Siempre 23" is also available here. Thierry Amiel, the finalist, also released his own album "Paradoxes". Jean-Sebastien Lavoie, the only canadian, ended up at 3d place and recorded an album ("Je me souviendrai"). I heard that Laetizia, the only girl to survive in the top 4, recorded a single.The collection of songs is eclectic but rather pop oriented. The most interesting singers were Thierry (the elegant French classic singer), Jean-Seb (the voice from Quebec)and Alexis (the soulman). I liked Laetizia (the poet) and Yoann (the mysterious)even if their voices are not the strongest.
Gabrielle is a good singer but her vocals sound outdated, like in an old Disney movie. Cindie, the youngest, tries too hard to be Celine. Priscilla did not really had time to prove who she was. Jonathan has the defects of his qualities. The boy is singing since he is 8 years old. He has a real strong voice (shining in ballads) but sometimes does not control his energy. Let's hope his concerts will help him grow.If you are interested in these series, I recommend the "album des finalistes" of Nouvelle Star 2d season, globally rockier and more successful thanks to the personalities of its star contestants. Steeve (winner), Julien (finalist) and Amel (3d) were incredible each week and should release an album each.
