I do my absolute best not to figure things out before they happen, but instead just let myself go and enjoy the ride. That is damn nigh impossible with this movie. Some have criticized the acting in this movie and while it isn't terribly convincing, it didn't bother me too much. Others have commented on the direction, music, etc... and while they may not be great, they're not so terrible as to make a movie unwatchable. This script, however, was woefully inadequate, but let's be honest even that can be overlooked at times. What was absolutely unforgivable with this movie was the sheer predictability of it. You WILL know what's about to happen quite a while ahead of time and, as a consequence, you will NOT care about the event when it occurs. I believe the creators of this film had an inkling as to the faults in their work and so tried to make it more unpredictable and twist-laden towards the end. Unfortunately, all they managed to do was dissolve any semblance of realism the film may have had whilst insulting the intelligence of the viewers. Keep in mind this is from someone who has thoroughly enjoyed many a cheesy horror flick (e.g. Night of the Living Dead, Evil Dead, Scream), drawn out pseudo-suspenseful movies (e.g. The Abyss, Intensity, Catacombs), and even movies about rich people just sitting around talking (e.g. An Ideal Husband, The Importance of Being Earnest*). This movie tried to combine the three of these genres and fell well short of them all. Now, if you've read this review you've wasted enough time on this movie, just move on quietly, and forget this movie ever existed. I'm sure that's what the actors are trying to do. Good luck. *Ok, I know both of those are Oscar Wilde and brilliant, but the few remaining brain-cells I have left after years of binge drinking have gone catatonic after watching this movie and I couldn't think of any other movies that fit the criteria. ![]() Bookies (Ws Slip) [VHS] $39.99 I don't know why I sat through this boring and predicable 2003 film. I guess I just kept waiting for it to get better. It didn't. The plot is about three college students who decide to become bookies. At first they succeed. Then the mob comes in. Don't bother with the stupid film. It's a complete waste of time on every level. Stay away from this loser. It's awful. |
