My answer to some of the other reviewers: is it a story that copied the Lord of the Rings, clearly the answer is yes. Yes a counsel is called that decided to form a fellowship which is needed to fight the source of great evil. The main member of this fellowship will give her life in the fulfillment of quest, though she does not do so in the end, she clearly is a Frodo type. Sir John is very much an Aragorn look alike. Is this a one for one copy of the Lord of the Rings? NO! It is a story in its own rights. Is the story influenced by J. R. R. Tolkien? Greatly. What modern fantasy is not? What modern Sci Fi is not influenced by Star Wars?

Was the Lord of the Rings influenced by other works, or did J. R. R. Tolkien work in a vacuum? The answer is J. R. R. Tolkien took his ideas for the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings from Die Nibelugen the story of Siegfried. In Tolkien own words The Hobbits were the English peoples. In the Hobbit Tolkien is saying Siegfried, i.e. the German people, killed the Dragon but it was due to the effort of the Hobbit, the English people. He carries this idea on into the Lord of the Rings, which is drawn from his experience in World War I and II. The point being, all stories stand on the back of other stories.

The question is, is this movie a good movie, i.e. worth watching. The answer is YES. It is well made, good story, the photo work is great, and good acting. Buy it, enjoy it.

This is a B-movie, nothing more, and on that level it was successful. Inane plot, cheesy characters, and complete logic-failures are just a few of the indictments easily leveled against this film. But I admit, it did make me bust up laughing in more than a scene or two. Poking fun at these kinds of movies is really part of their appeal. They are made to be corny. So set your expectations accordingly.

By the way, the outdoor cinematography startled me; sweeping mountain vistas, cold winter snows, and dark approaching storm clouds were very well done, adding lots of mood to this otherwise campy film.

Elektra: 4 out of 10: When people said Jennifer Garner, as Elektra, was the best thing in the movie Daredevil. I'm pretty sure they were mostly damning with faint praise. After all Jennifer, while certainly an attractive female, came across as a sorority pledge playing dress-up on S and M rush night.

In Elektra she looks even more ridiculous. There have been plenty of great female assassins over the years from the camp of a Bond villain, to the seductiveness of Linda Fiorentino, even the girl next-door deadliness of Bridget Fonda in Point of No Return. Female assassins are a wonderful staple of filmdom, seductive yet deadly. Garner is neither. "She looks like she is thinking of puppies," claimed one reviewer I read and I concur. If the Smurfs were X-rated ninja's, then Garner would still be miscast in Smurfette: Deadly Blue.

Her costumes certainly don't help her cause. You almost have the urge to tell her to put some clothes on and bright red Victoria Secret lingerie just doesn't scream stealth or deadly. Lord knows the rest of this mess doesn't help Garner either.

While Terrance Stamp can do no wrong every else seems either miscast or afraid of stealing Garner's thunder. Add on poor special effects, villains that turn into family friendly yellow smoke when killed, ninjas that crash through windows like Army rangers, gas stoves that explode like nuclear weapons, laundry fu, Japanese villains out of a World War 2 propaganda film and my personal favorite the warmest Christmas in Canadian history.

The movie clearly takes place in the northwest United States or Vancouver. The days are long, everyone is in short sleeves, and Garner takes recreational swims in the lake. (Canadian Lakes are notoriously cold even in August mind you) So when a cherub faced character asks Garner over for Christmas dinner Elektra isn't the only one surprised.

Garner is sexy but when it's time to kill she should either get dressed or let the grown-ups take care of things.
