I have tried out 6 different coolers to pull cooling duty on my 17" HP and the only one I have been happy with is the Notepal Infinite. I found this cooler online a long while back but it was only available overseas at the time so I had to try other, inferior ones and waste my money. This cooler I finally got my hands on and couldn't be happier.
The really nice thing about this is that putting it on your lap doesn't block any of the airflow. Where most coolers put the opening for the fans at the bottom, this cooler has the opening on the back.
Quiet at all speeds and the cooling is noticeable.
I think I may have to buy one for my wife's laptop.
