The Twilight Saga: New Moon - The Score

The score for New Moon, composed by Alexandre Desplat, is worth every penny and more. First, I must admit that I am biased and already worship the work of Desplat. I believe he is one of the finest composers and has yet to disappoint me. But beyond my already established affinity for Desplat, this score was perfection for the second installment of the maturing Twilight Saga movie production. There have been some criticisms that both the score and soundtrack for New Moon were a complete departure from those for Twilight. I agree that both albums made a departure but I instead praise their efforts. A departure from Twilight was NEEDED. The tone and nature of this film (and the book it was based on) was a complete departure from Twilight. New Moon exudes such heartbreak and suffering plus a new found maturity which the compositions needed to reflect. I think Desplat succeeded. Yes it's a new sound, but, an appropriate one. And for those who simply enjoy great compositions, this score will make a great addition to your collection.
