Twice before, i have noted "coming of age" films, made early in the career of an actress who later becomes famous, that just DISAPPEAR: "Cattle Annie & Little Britches" (Diane Lane), and "Moi, fleur Bleu" (Jodie Foster). I must put this one in, or at least very, Very near, that category.
The diva-to-be in this movie is none other than Jennifer Connelly, who went on to get justifiably famous in "Labyrinth" and, later, "The Rocketeer". You'd think that would make this film a collector's item, by itself. Nope. NOT for rent, anywhere, not for sale on DVD anywhere. Sometimes, I wonder if the actresses in question are pulling string to keep the product under wraps.
No that she has anything in particular to be ashamed of in this work. Her performance is Just FINE.
The rest of the movie, I grant you, is a mess. Poor acting, bad script. It is as if the screenplay is Trying to make us dislike the characters. All of them.
While not a complete waste of time, this is the sort of movie you see once, then keep around as a conversation piece.
