Medal of Honor: Heroes 2
Medal of Honor: Heroes 2

The controls were and still are the best FPS controls on Wii and across all consoles. Nearly 2 years old now, developers have yet to reach the fluidity and smoothness achieved by MoHH2. With its customizable controls, chances are just about everyone with half a brain will find a control scheme that's built for them. Of The Conduit, or CoD World at War, Medal of Honor trumps them all.

The controls may be great, but the game itself fails to achieve such grander. The single player campaign is just above horrible. There is no ambition, set places are WWII clichs, weapons are the same. Here, is where Heroes fails. The Conduit may have uniquely designed weapons, WaW better locations, but Heroes has nothing memorable in its single player mode. Heroes 2 does have an on-rails variation on every single player level, but honestly its too slow and isn't very fun.

Graphics are poor, level design is rarely any better. What is great is the amazing fluidity of the game. Heroes 2 runs at a locked and solid 60fps, with no slowdown. This is a great help, as you have control over every frame.

****There IS NO OFFLINE SPLITSCREEN MULTIPLAYER MODE. Amazon says up to 8 can play, and the box art says that it offers 4 player offline play, but both are WRONG.****

The game ultimately shines where it has yet to be beaten, 32 player lagless online play. No other Wii game has yet to even match half of that number. This is all possible in part to clever technical use of resources, and EAs own servers. That means there are no friend code to speak of, you can play with random people in a lobby, browse through available games, or invite online friends (parents need not worry, as you can't truly communicate with anyone outside of prescriped phrases, all involving "good job", or "look out"). Graphics do take a lock down during online play though, and the game downgrades from a poor PS2 title, to an early Dreamcast game. It hardly matters though, as the fun you'll have easily out ways any graphical flaws.

The online community does have some cheaters, but it's still very easy to find a good clean match. Maybe 2% of all players are hackers. Also, if you're new to the game, I HIGHLY suggest you have a run through the single player campaign as practice. Heroes 2 has a very dedicated online following, and most players are VERY good.

All in all, Medal of Honor Heroes 2 is still the best FPS game on Wii, 2 years after its release. It has the best online play, controls, and online features and functionality. Other games may look prettier, but none can match the overall experience of Heroes 2.

Warning: This review is revisionistic. That means that the review is versus the state-of-the-art as of today, August 10, 2009.
Call of Duty 3 was a PS3 release title. A version was also released on PS2 and XBox 360. Clearly it was not designed exclusively for the PS3. It is not as good as Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare or Call of Duty: World At War. These titles were developed with the benefit of hindsight about Call of Duty 3.
COD3 does not have an open world. But neither does COD4 or CODWAW, though in the latter cases there are more open areas than COD3.
COD3 is not designed to be realistic. Realistic combat is relatively boring, broken up by moments of terror and relief. In order to complete some of the levels in COD3 you have to annihilate a battalion of Germans personally. This is absurd from a realistic point of view. The game is fun! I died a lot though. I have been playing games for 2 decades so I feel qualified to say that much of the gameplay is in trying this and getting killed and trying that and getting killed until you put it all together. But it IS fun! To me the game feels more 'arcade-like' and less realistic. I don't think realistic combat would be too much fun. Hours in a foxhole. Many soldiers never saw a single enemy the whole war, except as prisoners. People don't jump out of cover in real life, and yes, I am aware the Japanese had the Banzai charge and the Russian conscripts made senselessly bloody human wave attacks, but they don't really work on a WW II or later battlefield (they didn't really work in WW I either). I predict there will be NO realistic WW II First Person Shooters ever made.
More realistic missions for a European WW II battlefield are more fights for river lines and for observation posts where an FO can call down Artillery and Air support - and I understand that in an FPS its more fun to do some shooting than it is to make radio calls and hike around avoiding ambushes, or getting shot at by unseen enemies, that you never see at all. Don't get me wrong, there were meeting engagements and firefights at close quarters, prisoner taking patrols, for certain. Infantry withstood lots of shelling, and had no targets, they had to advance to defensive points and listening posts. People aren't as bad shots as the enemy AI. If you can be seen you can be shot and killed. The enemy has snipers, too. Keep in mind that because of overwhelming Allied air superiority the Germans did not even move except under cover of overcast or darkness! Ok, there were some exceptions, but in virtually every case Allied airpower brought any advance or counterattack to an immediate halt with heavy German losses.
Ok, so, I went through all that to say BUT this IS a FUN game! Woo hoo! you drive tanks and jeeps and fire mortars and bazookas and the sound is pretty good on a surround system, and you get into the story line, and the strategic premise behind the battles was real (Falaise Pocket) and the terrain looks awesome and the guns are all a little bit different. But it is not as much fun as CODWOW or COD4. Great collector's item!

I've always liked WWII games, and was excited to play one based on the Airborne soldiers. The concept is great but I think the games full potential wasnt reached. The graphics are more PS2 than PS3, and its annoying how the enemy soldiers are endless until you advance your position in most cases. I like the fact that you can land anywhere and change things up a bit, but aside from that its really just another FPS. Also the AI controling your fellow Airborne soldiers is pretty dumb, they dont utilize cover properly, constantly run into each others line of fire, and are always getting killed off, they mostly just get in the way. I would have liked to see a bit more realism with the firearms, both accuracy and damage. One shot to the chest with an M1 Garand should bring a nazi to the dirt, rather than him taking the hit and not even flinching until you shoot him again. Unfortunately I think most combat shooters are starting to blur together into a predictable, ho-hum experience. Start here, kill those guys, go there, kill those guys too, go a bit farther over there, kill some more guys, blow up a tank or something, hooray you beat the level.

Overall its not terrible, but its also not that great. The developers should have put a little more effort into it and they could have had something really amazing.

This is my first medal of honor game that I played. I am a Call of Duty guy, but this game is a well deserved challenger of COD series. I mean I am already considering buying the other franchises of this game. I found a good deal on amazon.com

its the 10th anniversary and I recommend any one who is thinking of getting this game to get the whole package of the 10th anniversary its about the same value and the 10th anniversary packs lots more games. so a very good deal for new gamers to the medal of honor world like me.
