![]() Band on the Run $16.98 I'm trying to fill in my CD collection since the prices have gotten so low. I'm not sure why I never moved this album from vinyl to CD, but finally did it and I'm glad I did. "Band on the Run" isn't my favorite McCartney CD, but it does have some of my favorite songs on it, including: Band on the Run 1985 Jet With the extended version, this CD is well worth the price and a nice addition to the collections of Beatle fans. I prefer the song selections on the 2002-03 McCartney concert DVD but this is the only McCartney Bluray I am aware of. ![]() McCartney $7.99 Paul is a genius and a musician's musician. He actually beatboxes on "That Would Be Something" a good ten or fifteen years before anyone else would even think of doing it. He played every instrument himself and taught his wife to sing back-up. He beat a book for percussion on "The Lovely Linda." He used a leg of of his drum on a Stratocaster to simulate the sound of a steel guitar on "Man We Was Lonely." He played glasses full of water. He shot a bow and arrow. He started a fire in a studio -oops! He took avante garde chances that even John and Yoko would have balked at. It was his habit to turn to music in times of despair. Had it not been for the tragic loss of his mother when he was fourteen, he may never have become the musical genius he is today. He did the same thing after Brian's death- "Magical Mystery Tour" and "Fool On The Hill", John's death- "Here Today" and Linda's illness- the "Flaming Pie" album, namely "Somedays", "Heaven on a Sunday" and "Calico Skies", all of which were influenced in one way or another by her and Hurricane Bob He healed his deep emotional wounds left by the Beatles break-up with the music on McCartney, and for that reason alone this album is special. If the others could have done that the way Paul did, maybe the break up wouldn't have been so bitchy. Then, he took the ultimate leap when he admitted in the questionare that went out with the advance that the Beatles were over. The others would have been content to lie about it forever. Good for him. I get irritated when people call this an album of outtakes. Understand he recorded most of this stuff at home with crude equipment, no vu meter and only one mic. Listen to it with that in mind. Fans of bad movies can equate this album to Rocky working out in Siberia to prepare for the big fight in Rocky IV. Yes, this album is rough and loaded with instrumentals. But listen to it in the context of his career and you'll love it as much as I do. ![]() Ram $11.98 when ram was released in "71" it was hailed as the worst album of all time.I hated it.It was so shallow,so dumb that it was embarassing to listen to,mccartney's songs which were supposed to have humor were humorless, and if thats not enough he made his wife an equal conspirator in this thing, the problem was,she could not sing, let alone play musical instruments.that was in 1971.i bought a reissued dvd of ram this week and i can say without a doubt, after listening to it again, that ram IS THE WORST ALBUM OF ALL TIME.The excesses of dumb lyrics,non-melodies,and mccartney's presumption that he could sell the listening public anything no matter how bad it may be,no matter how strained his cute vocals provoked contempt rather than pathos, and finally the ameturism of Linda's vocals, the sound of her voice when laced into the songs starts at the base of the spine, creeps upward until the brain has to try to figure what the hell its hearing.. |
