![]() For Love of the Game $9.99 I kept catching this movie part way thru on TV. You can't fully understand the movie unless you watch it from the start. A lot is explained in the opening credits alone. It reminds me of "The Natural" starring Robert Redford which set up the movie in the first 10 minutes. Both films are about the people we encounter in life - good people, mean people, people down on their luck, loyal people who support you to the end, friends, family, etc. My favorite thing in the movie is the interaction between Billy (Costner) and Gus the catcher (Reilly). Overall, a great movie about life - good times, bad times, things we cherish, things we regret. A good deed done will pay you back later (heartfelt advice to an outfielder who gets hit on the head by a fly ball who later catches a potential home run during the perfect game). A bad deed done can always be forgiven. All that matters is that we do the right thing in the end. "Tell them I'm through, For Love of the Game" ![]() Major League $12.98 Sometimes people don't think much of you but you end up winning at the end. Stories like that happen. It is always encouraging to see. The movie itself is more of a comedy than an inspirational movie but I never get tired of watching it. ![]() The Official World Series Film Collection $229.95 Over the past few years, A&E has released numerous collections of World Series films that have left a few of them out. Most notably, 1955, 1957, 1960, 1971, 1979 and 1995 were never rereleased on DVD. They are finally out in this Book/DVD combo. The book itself, while very short, is a great coffee table book. The 20 discs sit comfortably inside the book. Another huge improvement, especially for those that had the previous World Series film DVDs is that all of the films themselves have chapters so it is easy to navigate between the different games. These are all of the films that were originally released immediately after each World Series, so the 1946 film is in black and white with very little graphics and no interviews while the 2008 film is much longer with interviews, extensive highlights, etc. I would highly recommend this set, even though it is rather pricey. ![]() Major League 2/Major League: Back to the Minors $14.98 being a baseball fan, I considered this film to be a funny and amusing movie with characters playing their part very sufficiently; especially Mr. Sheen. |
