This is a great album that has stood the test of time. "Flower" - WOW. I wish Liz wanted ME that bad.

I've been a Liz fan since the tapes, and this album is the one that is consistently underrated, even by fans. The subject matter has changed some, but Liz's ability to use odd song structure, evocative lyrics, and quirky voice only got stronger with this record. Ballparking, I'd say 50 percent of my favorite Liz Phair lyrics are on "whitechocolatespaceegg," like this:

You're lucky to even know me / You're lucky to be alive / You're lucky to be drinking here for free / 'Cause I'm a sucker for your lucky, pretty eyes / Do you wanna be a polyester bride? / Do you wanna hang your head and die? / Do you wanna find alligator cowboy boots / That just went on sale? / Do you wanna flap your wings and fly / Away from here?

I bought this version as a gift. I do not know anything about the new songs, or if they "cleaned up" this version of the album. However, if you know Liz Phair as the "mega-pop" woman (or if you think of her as a version of Gwen Stefani), then you don't know Liz Phair--and you've heard nothing like this!

This is an album with songs about a woman trying to find her place. She's angry, sexual...and listening to this album will make you wish she wrote these songs about your time with her.

This album she definately received more airplay and overall exposure. It still retains her original edginess, but is more pop and perhaps some would "safe". But she does a great job with this album. I don't care for all of the songs, but they are all memorable and often catchy. I would highly recommend this album.
