![]() Stolen Heart $14.95 This character-driven thriller from first time Canadian director Terry O'Brian explores what happens when a group of kidnappers get in over their heads. Joey (Lisa Ryder) is the ringleader of the operation, bringing lowlifes Avery and Creed along for the ride. What seems like a foolproof, well-rehearsed plan to abduct the daughter of a celebrity self-help expert backfires for the team when Joey takes the girl and flees, robbing them of their chance of a ransom. Crossing the Canadian border with the little girl on her own, Joey forces people to wonder why she kidnapped this particular child in the first place. **NON STANDARD PRICING** ![]() Gene Roddenberry's Andromeda: Slipstream Collection $169.98 This is "Amazingly Attractive Andromeda" for sci-fi/fantasy/mystery followers such as I [my words in quotes]. I am now very happy that I took a big chance and got the whole show in all seasons when it was easy to do so. This show has everything I look for in sci-fi/fantasy/mystery -- including most surely great sci-fi/fantasy/mystery. "Andromeda" is glorious grand space opera with an overall ethical theme [in dedicated support of galactic law-and-order civilization revival during a future galactic dark age] -- supported by a strong starship commander via clever-but-ethical action with his loyal crew -- that he has to win over to such loyalty. They are mostly successful versus tricky dangerous situations with various interesting twists along the way. The captain, ship and crew are very attractive heros -- yes, even the ship "Andromeda" is quite a Lady -- lovely, sweet, smart and oh-so-sharp. The episodes mostly flow along in an on-going adding-up long-saga -- unlike much of the previously produced work of Gene Roddenberry -- who had "Andromeda" plotted long ago waitng for creation. The hi-tech, effects and settings are done as well as all of this show -- as well as plenty of DVD set features and extras. I am refreshed by such a positive show with positive actors and actions. I avoid much recent media shows as being just too chaotic, graphic, bloody and grim -- even if I like the darker "Battlestar Galactica" and "Firefly" about as much as fair "Andromeda". So -- I am wonderfully surprised by "Andromeda" -- [for me] the best thing since "Lord of the Rings" +++ ![]() Blackheart [VHS] $9.98 Buy this, for either one of two possible reasons. One if you had a crush on Richard Grieco, since "21 Jump Street", or have the hots for Maria Conchita Alonso. She seduced me from beginning to end. But for either actor, this film is not one of their best works, but I guess it pays the gas bill. Ray's character could've been stronger, instead of being putty in Annette's hands. Especially after she got him arrested, and should have had the gall to grab her gun after he punched her. But the worst part of the film was Loewi's character. She had as much charm and personality as a maple tree. She could have prevented Ray's death by putting the boots to Annette(during her weakest stage), instead of going into her secret hiding place. In the end, she got to keep all of her money. Only to give it all to the jumping magic bean salesman. Plummer's character was enjoyable as flat soda, Sam's character didn't belong in this film. What was her connection to Annette? That was inexplainable. Unless you're a die-hard fan of the main actors, skip it. ![]() Donnie Darko (Director's Cut) $9.99 Fun, fresh every time, entertaining, fascinatingly odd, startling, amazing. This was a classic the first day it ran - and it ran with bizare eloquence. It will make you think as it beckons you to attempt to proceed without being underdetermined. Logic V. Passivability. Life V. Illusion. Buy this to own it for you will watch it 2-3 times every year, or more! |
