In 2003, I bought this around the time it came out. I was still in 8th grade and didn't know music outside of the [radio] box at the time. Ironically, I bought this along with Rage Against the Machine at the same time, and after so many years, only one of these albums is still in my CD collection. Take a guess.

Upon first listen, I liked this. Not as much as Hybrid Theory, but it was cool to hear new LP. Then, time came along, and with multiple singles getting radio treatment, this got old really quick, up to the point that my precious allowance money should have bought me something that lasts for longer than two spins.

What is exactly wrong with this album? It's simple: this is just Hybrid Theory with a few minor tweaks. I could literally distinguish parallels between certain tracks. For example, "Don't Stay" is just "One Step Closer" but with more contrived anger. Then there's "Numb", which closes off the album the same way that "Pushing Me Away" did previously. I could go on with this, but let's be honest with the fact that Linkin Park have no imagination when it comes to their songwriting most of the time. Minus the instrumental "Session", you're given the same thing throughout, and when it's just beating the dead horse of Hybrid Theory, it's not very pleasant.

"Meteora" is nothing but a soulless rehash of the band's previous formula, which wasn't that good in the first place. It's completely unimaginative and does nothing, and unless Hybrid Theory is one of your favorites, don't even bother with this empty shell.

Score: 2/10

This new song is my absolute Favorite of theirs, and that says something because it's hard to pick a favorite LP song -there are so many great ones!! The lyrics are cool, and it has a cool sound.

Although this is the first official album that Linkin Park released, there is nothing amateur about it. The music and the vocals blend together perfectly, with a style that is very unique to the band. Mike Shinoda raps in a very mellow tone, beating rhythmically and smooth along with the industrial, nu metal sound that became the trademark of the band. The mix of hip-hop, heavy metal and alternative styles combine into a whole new style that is chaotic, but perfectly blended at the same time. The voice of Chester Bennington is very dynamic in the way that is sounds when he screams. It sounds like two or three different voices overlapping to create a multi-toned sound unlike anything else. The mix between Chester singing and Mike rapping creates many different feelings and rhythms uncharacteristic of any other band, many times enhancing the intended emotion much better than one person could.
