I didn't enjoy this movie as much as I thought I would. I'm a rabid fan of all things surf, beach, and tiki, but apparently my appreciation does not extend back to anything resembling the 1950s. I understand this movie is modeled along the 50's beach flicks, and if you're of a mindset that enjoys that period, you might really enjoy this movie. I did not however. I think my problem stems from the lack of an interesting story line. So there's a group of surf bums who live on the beach, and grudgingly admit a new female member, only to slowly realize that she has multiple personalities, not all of which are suitable to the group's goal of sun, surfing and survival. If you read my other reviews, you'd accuse me of applying a double standard; Club Dread shares many similar characteristics as this film, but I absolutely love that movie for no reason that I can readily articulate and defend. So whatever that je nais soi quoi is, its missing in this film, despite a surprisingly good cast. Perhaps it was just a little too cheeky and over the top, not sure. Ultimately, I'd encourage a rental, but ground your expectations going in.

With the exception of a very uncomfortable, reach-for-the-fast-forward button bedroom sequence, we enjoyed this small, intelligent film a great deal. Frank Langella is a hallmark of excellence. His Leonard Schiller hardly seems like acting...until you remember his entirely different outing as Richard Nixon (Frost/Nixon).

Lili Taylor is excellent here, too, as Langella's on-screen daughter Ariel. She's looking beautiful and performing better than ever at 42.

Adrian Lester - haven't thought of him since his turn as Henry Burton in Mike Nichols' adaptation of Joe Klein's Primary Colors: A Novel of Politics. He gives a nice outing here, too. His scenes with Langella are outstanding - the metamorphosis of their relationship is touching and realistic.

I purchased this with 9 other Christmas Audio stories hoping to listen to them all before Christmas to get into the festive mood.

Of the 10 Christmas Audios only 5 were good to great. This audio is not in that group.

There are three stories on this CD.

A CHRISTMAS DREAM very average story. The author didn't make the characters seem real enough.

HOW IT CAME TRUE by the end of this story I nearly threw the cd out thinking the amount of money I paid for it was so overpriced even if it was free I wouldn't have wanted it if I knew what I knew now.

ROSA'S TALE NOW That was an interesting short tale of a horse being able to talk for one hour only at midnight on Christmas Eve. Rosa the horse told of the cruelty of some of its past owners and whatit had to endure. This story was very moving, just wish that this story could have been a complete book not just a very short tale.

So over all this audio is not worth purchasing. Little Women now that is worth every cent and listening to and relistening to.

The narrator of this audio Lauren Ambrose did a brilliant job narrating this story.
