![]() Outrun the Sky $12.98 A friend introduced me to Ms. Hathaway a few years ago and it was love at first sound. Her music never gets old to me and I enjoy listening to this CD over and over again. She has a unique voice and sound. If you don't have this CD and enjoy classic R&B, I highly recommend this one. ![]() The Song Lives On $16.98 In disbelief, I read Rickey Wright's review as I returned to buy yet another 'The Song Lives On' CD for yet another devotee. More than eight years later, this Joe Sample and Lalah Hathaway masterpiece still receives universal praise on jazz websites and various blog entries by people who know good music. Sometimes it makes one wonder a) how someone could acquire a job based upon having a good ear for music, yet refer to Joe Sample's piano playing as "monotony" and Lalah's singing as "boring." b) If, eight years later,he could actually stand by and believe that his scathing review is still accurate and that the thousands of other positive reviews are wrong. Perhaps he was bored that it wasn't Janet Jackson, who I'm sure he would refer to as a masterful vocalist extraordinaire. This is an obvious case of someone who has no knowledge of the genre or artists involved and is told to write an article, half-listens to it while chatting on the phone, and then spits out this ridiculous review. I have never critiqued a critic, but Wright was so blaringly inept in his analysis of this classic gem that it begged to be countered with the truth. I usually believe in freedom of speech and honoring other's perspective, but when two top-notch musicians create a brilliant project such as this and then are accused of "artistic laziness", it makes one think that artistic laziness can best describe the writer of this review and his scewed bias toward this type of music. Countless fans of the project throughout the world are awaiting another Joe/Lalah collaboration and follow-up tour, eager to experience the magic again. Wright needs to put down the distractions, listen again, and apologize for making one of the biggest blunders in the history of reviews. ![]() Self Portrait $18.98 i like lala any ole way but she delivers it is so soulsie a nice laid back jazzy driving on a rainy day or love making songs yes i said it ........... |
