Three weeks after her historic participation in the PGA Tour s 2003 Bank of America Colonial Invitational, Annika Sorenstam won her first LPGA Championship title. The tournament, held June 5-8, 2003, at DuPont Country Club in Wilmington, Delaware, came down to a pressure-packed duel between Annika and Grace Park, who forced a playoff with the Swede after tying her with an overall score of 278 (6-under par) over 72 holes. In the end, though, Annika rose to the occasion and won on the playoff hole with a par on No. 18. With the win, Annika claimed her fifth major championship and 45th tournament victory overall.
