This book certainly is worth more than the price it is being sold at amazon.com booksellers' website. It contains information that is very important and relevant to Cambodia and her leaders of all eras, without ambiguity, confusion or repetition. I strongly believe that the author has enormous amount of knowledge and experiences about the Cambodian affairs, internally and externally. Part of it was obtained through her long career as a journalist with the Washington Post. The perseverance of writing, editing, researching, proofreading and the commitment for excellence by this author placed her as one of the most respectable authors of modern time. I sincerely thank her for an extraordinary accomplishment of publishing this book. This book would be a masterpiece for generations of Cambodian people to read and learn about what went wrong that led to the murderous regime of Pol Pot. It clearly reveals the national and foreign leaders' involvement with the decision-makings that eventually turned Cambodia into a bloodbath of the twentieth century. As a result of this, millions of innocent people lost their lives in such a short period of time. Those who barely survived lost many of their love ones, emotionally affected for life, displacement and separation from relatives. The book also reveals who were at fault, unable to envision the catastrophe for the Cambodian people caused by their actions. A segment of the book describes the story of Sita Deth. It is very compelling due to the fact that S-21 (Toul Sleng prison) that was run by Kaing Kek Eav (revolutionary name Duch) murdered approximately 20,000 men, women, and children. The victims were merely former bureaucrats of the defeated Lon Nol regime, soldiers, policemen, students, teachers, professors, doctors, lawyers, bourgeoisie, and capitalists. Other victims were implicated by extreme tortured suspects as working for the American CIA, the Soviet KGB, and Vietnamese agents. Any one of those associations was a ground for execution. False confessions were extracted from innocent people by the Toul Sleng prison guards who were completely brainwashed and lack of compassion to conduct the torture. The reign of terror was run by fear of death; therefore, every order must be followed. It was the regime that, "today's executioner could become tomorrow's victim." Other victims were simply accused of plotting against the Angka Pakdevat (revolutionary organization) for its failure. This last group of victims was the former Khmer Rouge leaders themselves. Only 13 of the 20,000 prisoners survived because the prison guards didn't have time to kill them off on January 7, 1979 when the Vietnamese troops overthrew the Khmer Rouge (Cambodian communist) regime. The reason that the prisoners' wives and children were brought and killed there was the Khmer Rouge leaders believed that "to destroy the weeds, their roots have to be pulled." The name Kaing Kek Eav doesn't sound like a descendant is of the Cambodian native. His complexion, physical appearance and facial features are of the descendant of the Chinese or Sino-Vietnamese. Therefore the mass killing was highly questionable of who was really behind the plot. I strongly recommend this book to every Cambodian people to read so that tragedy would not be repeated, plus Westerners who are interested in knowing more about the superpowers' political games in Indochina. In When Slaves Became Masters the author wrote, "When the elephants are attacking one another, only the ants got killed."

This is a very good book even if disturbing because of the real life events the author shares. I encourage all to read it if interested in Cambodia and it's people. This book shows not only how difficult life was during the Khmer Rouge period but the problems that face so many refugees that arrive in the USA. Very powerful book.

This two CD compilation is divided into a studio disc and a live disc and while the studio disc contains a good cross section of the bands material the live album probably gives you a better idea of where the band were headed.
