![]() The Winthrop Woman: A Novel $15.95 This is a very good read. The characters are rich and the story interesting. I have owned this book for a little over a year and have read it three times. I is in my opinion the best novel by this author. ![]() Katherine $9.95 This should be interesting to anyone who has a decent understanding of what REALLY went down with the Weather Underground and revolutionary struggle in the late 1906s & early 1970s. This, apparently made-for-TV drama, clearly blends events revolving around a number of different individuals into a single character (some Weatherwomen in particular, which is being implied with the title of the movie). It surprisingly does a pretty thorough job at briefly explaining a number of the political concepts and evolutions that many experienced during those years of struggle. But don't be mistaken, this is a B-movie by any definition (although the Fonz honestly shows some acting ability in here, which was a highlight). While I personally enjoyed this, I would surely not substitute it for any real historical information.. especially the ending. ![]() The Body in the Sleigh: A Faith Fairchild Mystery (Faith Fairchild Mysteries) $15.99 So nice to see Faith and family here on Sanpere in the winter, though I did miss Pix and their gang. I always delight in Katherine's descriptions of this area of Maine -- my own back yard. Having grown up in NYC, married and started a family outside of Boston. . . I've been "friends" with Faith for sometime time, looking forward to each new book as a special "treat," (figuratively as well as literally -- I've compiled my own recipe box of "Have Faith" concoctions!) I'm already anxiously awaiting the next "Body In The. . ." book, though I know it will unfortunately mean another murder -- it will also mean new recipes! ![]() Mistress of the Monarchy: The Life of Katherine Swynford, Duchess of Lancaster $28.00 This book was the biggest disappointment to me. I bought it as my favorite category of historical fiction, but it certainly doesn't read as a story. It's full of if this happened, then we can believe this to be true and "credible sources". I understand liberties taken with history for the sake of a good story and that is what I thought I was getting. It is a rare book that I buy and then put down after thirty pages, but that's exactly what I did with this one |
