![]() Made of Bricks [Explicit] $7.99 This is a great CD. Kate has a unique sound and the tracks are mixed nicely. If you enjoy Regina Spektor, Lily Allen, etc you'll love Kate. Give it a listen. ![]() Alright, Still $12.98 Alright, Still being Allen's debut album and her 2006 release is a mix between pop, ska, alternative and grime. Allen writes sarcastic and profound lyrics that make you think. The booklet contains all the lyrics and has a list of whom plays what on the album. The album was met with great reviews and The Guardian and The Observer gave it 5/5. The cover is a bit strang with Allen riding a bike and I have no idea what it is supposed to convey Tracks trhat stand out on this record are "Smile", "LDN", and "Littlest Things". 4/5. ![]() Foundations $4.98 I love Kate Nash. I found her debut album `Made of Bricks' to be brilliant and one of the most refreshing and inspiring albums in recent memory. I love her accent and the way she uses it when she sings. I love her diary-like lyrics that really stretch the imagination and bring a smile to the face. I love her whole aura, which transcends the boundaries of the stereo and makes an impact on the listener. That said, I wasn't left too impressed by this little ditty. I was really excited when I saw that the EP for `Foundations' had three songs I'd never heard before. I've been waiting for something new from Kate for a while now and so this was the perfect way for me wet my appetite while I await the release of her sophomore release, which is scheduled for early 2010 (yay!). Yes, `Foundations' is wonderful, but I already have that song on `Made of Bricks'. Sadly it's the best song on here. `Navy Taxi' is also good, but it drags on a bit (it's nearly six minutes long) and so it loses some of its greatness along the way. It has its sincere moments though, and she sounds amazing. I'm a little shocked it didn't make the final cut for her album, but not everything can make it in I guess. The real issue I have with this little EP is with the final two tracks. Both of them remind me of `Play', the opener of `Made of Bricks'. For any of you who have heard `Play', you'll know that it really isn't a song. It is just a weird repetitious track that is clearly an opener. `Caroline's A Victim' is very reminiscent of `Play' but it is clearly NOT an opener and so it doesn't work (`Play' doesn't even REALLY work). `Habanera' is slightly better, but that is only slightly. They are just weak additions to her repertoire. So, I hate to not recommend this because Kate Nash is brilliant and everyone should love her, but this EP is not the way to do it. Pick up `Made of Bricks'. It's one of the best albums you could own! |
