![]() Joan Crawford: The Enduring Star $60.00 What a fabulous book full of interesting and gorgeous photos of Joan Crawford. The text is just as interesting. I could not put the book down the day I received it and had it half read by the next day. Finished it in three days. ![]() The Joan Crawford Collection (Humoresque / Possessed (1947) / The Damned Don't Cry / The Women / Mildred Pierce) $49.98 This Joan Crawford box-set collection should be on your shelf, if your a Joan Crawford Fan. I Watched every movie and all I can say is I was not disappointed. Each movie was entertaining in their own way. My favorite movie from this collection was "The Women" very funny! On a more serious note, my second Favorite was "The Damned Dont Cry" and of course "Mildred Pierce". I love the fact that there are bonus features that come along with the set, documentary's and commentary are always a plus. I am glad I own it! Thanks! ![]() The Damned Don't Cry $19.98 Good Joan Crawford film, from the latter part of her strong Warner Brothers period. This one is more of a gangster picture than the rich, melodramatic "women's pictures" Crawford mostly made during this time, but there are certainly elements of the latter on display here, too. It's funny, as I was watching this, I said to myself, "darn, this reminds me of the plot of Warren Beatty's 'Bugsy' movie of several years back." And, of course, as I discovered in one of the DVD's special features, this movie was inspired by exactly that: the story of gangster Bugsy Siegel and his created-from-whole-cloth rich socialite companion, Virginia Hill. "The Damned Don't Cry" features a clean, sharp image on DVD. There's also a short but informative special feature (which I referred to above) consisting of interviews with director Vincent Sherman and several film scholars/enthusiasts, who offer interesting takes on the film. Other extras include the film's trailer and a movie-length commentary by director Sherman. Entertaining, tough, and in many ways modern for its time, "The Damned Don't Cry" is well worth any film enthusiast's time. ![]() The Joan Crawford Collection, Vol. 2 (A Woman's Face / Flamingo Road / Sadie McKee / Strange Cargo / Torch Song) $49.98 The Joan Crawford Collection Volume 2 is a terrific collection with some of the Great Movies: Flamingo Road with Sidney Greenstreet- "What do ya do with a dead elephant" puts the "C" in Classic; the surprising A Woman's Face- no sentiment in this one and what a cast; Sadie McKee a good melodrama and surprisingly entertaining; Torch Song is such fun; and Strange Cargo - This one is one of the best films ever done, and again has a fantastic cast- and it just doesn't stop moving for a moment. This is a fun collection. No regrets! |
